Reviews & Discussion:
Dude... this is really cool. Feeling these tracks. It seriously reminds me of oldskool Rob Hood, like The Protein Valve or maybe even The Vision. Although Rob Hood may be a little bit more of a 909 virtuoso than Kikoman, but still, great 12"!
Caveat. My first record. Review will be biased.
Among the greatest tech/house ever recorded. "Halfway between Detroit and Chicago" was their motto a while after this was pressed. (They used to be headquartered in Kalamazoo.) Since then, everyone (as far as I know) has moved on from that shithole. Don't know what it is about crappy Michigan towns slamming out the greatest techno in the world, but hey, let's all just roll with it and enjoy the music.
A totally unsung hero of disco-house in my book. This 2 LP set has some of the tastiest grooves I've ever heard come out of the genre. For whatever reason, however, it's not something you hear much about. Highly recommended. Particularly "Pain in the Heart," "Atomik Kinki," and "Get Down." Well, they're all good, but those are the tracks I would tend to drop. You can find this easily on CD, if you do some digging though you might even find the vinyl. Highly recommended!
One december a friend of mine, shopping for his family, dragged me into a christian bookstore of all places, and I found this gem amongst their music CD's. (This music is christian.) This is one of the most interesting releases I've ever found, I think due at least partially because of it's very apparent isolation from the dance scene, and also because of its incredibly imaginative and leftfield track styles. It has such a commercial quality to it, and yet this record was never a huge commercial success. I don't believe any vinyl of these tracks exist. If so, I would be hunting for them.
A worthwhile release. If you can't handle the christian bookstore, go to the virus website. ;) (They are probably out of print as far as the christian stores are concerned anyway). One more thing. They went EXTREMELY LIGHT on the Jesus/god stuff. It is not in any way shoved down your throat. Do yourself a favor and don't avoid this release if you are not christian. It is good music and holds its own by any standard.

Wow. Couldn't disagree any more wholeheartedly with the other discogs users' ratings. This is one of my favorite records. The B-side is definitely my preferred slice on this bad boy. I like everything about it. The dark, muddy bass drum, the driving "conga", the shakers, hihats, and rattlers all get married and work together to form what I consider to be one of the greatest tracks in techno, ever.
The A-side is a nice little number, bangin' percussion rattling your fillings while a thumping little bassline kicks your ass. I totally don't understand the other users' ratings on this one, but to each their own. | ||||
Regardless, this vinyl was such a long time coming. The emphasis is on DJ friendliness, with a dab of Detroit influence on the engineering style. The tracks include 909/808-ified mixes of The Robots, Radio-Activity, and other late 70's/early-mid 80's Kraftwerk tracks that were crowning achievements electronic music--but didn't necessarily go out of their way to be urban dance scene oriented.
Not that that's a good or a bad thing, it is what it is.
Be that as it may, this is a fantastic release and I'm thrilled that it has come out on wax.
