I am a 22 year old University student, and have been passionate about EDM (particularly Trance) since 1996 (yes from the age of 10!) when I first listened to: Future Sound Of London, The "Papa New Guinea", Cygnus X "Superstring" and "The Orange Theme", B.B.E. "7 Days And 1 Week", Ayla "Ayla" and Way Out West "The Gift", not quite knowing what they really `'meant' but being totally mesmorised at the same time.
I then properly began collecting trance music, and from 1998 I started to idolise classics like: Push "Universal Nation", Armin van Buuren " Blue Fear", Binary Finary "1998", Mauro Picotto "Lizard", Agnelli & Nelson "El Niño", Three Drives "Greece 2000", ATB "9pm-Till I Come", Lost Tribe "Gamemaster", Art of Trance "Madagascar", Signum "What Ya Got 4 Me", Plastic Boy "Twixt", Boccaccio Life "The Secret Wish (Lange Remix)", Matt Darey "From Russia With Love", Sasha "Xpander", Bedrock "Heaven Scent" etc.
Since then, I have been collecting 'trance' CD's (some signed) and tend to be on the lookout for new music all the time; so discogs is great!
On the subject of 'new music', I would say that my current up and coming fav. DJ/Producers are: Nitrous Oxide (2), Sunny Lax, Daniel Kandi, Super8 & Tab, Signalrunners, 8 Wonders, Smith & Pledger, Maor Levi, Adam Nickey, Anhken, Mike Koglin, Stoneface & Terminal, Breakfast (3), Alex M.O.R.P.H., Will Holland (2), Bart Claessen, Sophie Sugar, Sean Tyas, Sebastian Brandt, Aly & Fila, Simon Patterson and Sander van Doorn.
Favourite Record Label: Anjunabeats/Anjunadeep.
Favourite DJ/Producers: Above & Beyond, Mike Dierickx, Armin van Buuren, Thrillseekers, The, Lange, Matt Darey, Andy Moor, Signum, Ferry Corsten, DJ Tiësto, Airwave, Darren Tate, Art of Trance, Cygnus X, Agnelli & Nelson, Mauro Picotto, Cosmic Gate, Yves DeRuyter, Hybrid & Way Out West...etc.
Favourite Vocalists: Justine Suissa, Carrie Skipper, Ashley Tomberlin, Kirsty Hawkshaw, Jennifer Rene, Jan Johnston, Jes Brieden, Tiff Lacey, Andrea Britton, Anita Kelsey, Alexta, Gina Dootson, Kate Cameron, Audrey Gallagher.
Preferred Genres: Progressive Trance, Trance, Hard Trance, Tech Trance, PsyTrance, Techno, some Tech and Hard House, & Quaility Breakbeat. Also have time for Classical and genuinely good music, not superficial-commercial crap that plagues Radio 1 and the charts!
Aside of music I am hugely into sports, especially Football to which I am a massive Liverpool FC fan! I also love Motorsport such as F1, FIA GT, Le Mans, Touring Cars and WRC etc. Besides sport, I also love going out with my mates and having meals out :)

Super8 & Tab - Elektra - 28-Jul-08 08:58 AM
This is one of those releases which really shows why Anjunabeats is the best record label in the world.
I heard both of these mixes on the Saturday night of Godskitchen Global Gathering 2008, where Sander van Doorn played the Bart Claessen Remix and later on in the same GK tent; Above & Beyond played the Original Mix, and they both went down as possibly the best plats of the entire weekend!
The original mix is simply stunning from start to finish - it's a blend of progressive, electro, and tech trance. There is a wonderful groovy bassline throughout which carries the synth, strings and vocal along with effortless ease, resulting in a timeless piece of Anjuna trance.
Secondly there's the Bart Claessen & Dave Schiemann remix, which has definite threads with Bart Claessen’s epic remix of Remo-con "Cold Front". A heavier bassline and techier synth chords along with rasping effects and an overall futuristic progressive tech trance feel makes this mix a real star and incredibly memorable remix.
Both mixes are an absolute must, hence no wonder this release has been so eagerly anticipated since the beginning of the year. 5/5
Above & Beyond - Can't Sleep - 23-Mar-08 06:24 AM
What a release by the ever-impressive trio that make up Above & Beyond. I would say that this has to be the perfect vocal trance track, as it has all of the vital elements which help to create the complete spectrum of emotions by which only trance music can achieve.
Firstly, I must comment on the flawless production - it is quite simply brilliant, right from the first effect/synth and beat this masterpiece rolls on for the next 9 minutes giving you not just a taste, but an overdose of absolute euphoria.
The vocals and lyrics are fantastic; Ashley Tomberlin delivers some amazingly strong yet delicate and breathy notes which complement the music like no other vocal trance tracks out there, apart from of course A's "OceanLab" alias with the incredible Justine Suissa on hand!
The lead synh is NOT tedious or dull - it would make a good anthem all on it's own especially if it were a little faster. The BPM is just right for the Original Mix as it sets the tone for an epic and emotional trance track.
The Maori Remix is a great contrast - nice and dark with lots of futuristic effects, yet it provides all of the right 'structural' elements to help support a vocal piece of this nature. Looped and gritty synths are synchronised with the bass to help create a quite alarmingly fast feel without cranking the BPM to the 140 mark - very clever!
A monster anthem by the boys based in London, which will be enjoyed for decades to come. Thank you for this masterpiece, and long may it continue.
Above & Beyond - Can't Sleep - 23-Mar-08 06:23 AM
The Remixes; all of which offer something quite different in style but equally brilliant and interesting, are as good as or even better than the Original Mix:
The Signum Remix steals the show, as it doesn’t loose any of the vocals yet offers a hard, fast, futuristic, atmospheric and more euphoric trance feel overall without compromising the quality - no question, it's a future trance classic.
The Maori Remix is very very dark and is full of looping, rasping, chopped-up synths and a heavy yet not high BPM bass. In my opinion this is the underground trance fans choice - typical of Maor Levi's "Maori" work, just listen to 'Destruct' and you've pretty much got the overall feel for this mix.
The Daniel Kandi Remix is great "Dream Trance", it's nice and uplifting with lots of beautiful effects and the main synth has been morphed into one of those Daniel Kandi 'piano key specials', not only this but there is a wonderful breakbeat section before the song peaks after 3 and a half mins - very good indeed.
The ATB Remix has a really progressive trance feel, and if it wasn’t for the existence of the three other (fantastic) mixes above - then this would be played a lot more. The synth has been extended to match the slower BPM, hence this is a highly simplistic approach for a progressive trance track. Here ATB has produced an underrated interpretation of a true classic.
The Sonorous Remix is quite disappointing. Although it offers an initially interesting feel it is not fast enough, and without a lead synth (unlike a Euphonic artist to do that), nor do the background effects to match the vocals; it's ok but not good enough especially compared to the other mixes on show. Therefore not the best work by one of my top artists form the Euphonic label.
The Ian Carey Vocal/Dub Mixes are very different to the others, as this artist merges a very progressive house feel with a quite typical trancer. This has a really good beat, lots of welcome effects and a catchy synth, however I am not too fond of the Dub Mix without the vocals - it's just a little too minimal.
Anjunabeats - 23-Dec-07 07:05 AM
I totally agree, the 'genre-breaking' Anjunabeats label never fails to deliver the very best in electronic music whether it is deep & progressive trance/house, chunky-tech trance/house, melodic-uplifing-euphoric trance, or full-on vocal dancefloor destroyers, this trio have it sewn up. They offer a fusion of ALL types and sub-genres of trance and prog. house, hence this is why they can deliver such revolutionary pieces to satisfy any EDM fans pallet.
This label (particularly for the underground trance fans) is and has been the heart of trance music for the last 2 or 3 years now, and will certainly continue to be for many years to come. There ethos is to produce and mix the highest quality of EDM possible, hence this year they (Above & Beyond) were voted number 6 in DJ Mags top 100 DJ poll - in my opinion they are number 1! I predict that they will reach the top 3 within the next two years, and expect them to be fighting out for the number 1 spot thereafter.
There is also not one release that is remotely poor in any way (including b-side mixes) which is remarkable achievement by any standards in the music industry, and even the vinal releases (which make great wall art) look cooler than David Beckham's bank balance! In fact the Anjunabeats label is so well refined and loveable that when you listen to tracks from other labels they seem comparatively weak in terms of the quailty of production, with maybe the exception of Armada, Euphonic, and the up and coming Intuition Recordings (2).
Every track produced by Above & Beyond is unsuprisingly incredible, so I would advice anyone who likes trance to also check out the work of; Nirous Oxide (2), Sunny Lax, Daniel Kandi, Maor Levi, Stephen J. Kroos, and Smith & Pledger, you will not be let down in any way! Personally I cannot wait for the special anniversary release #100, and the exclusive CD compilation avialable in the new year - bring on 2008...
