Reviews & Discussion:

Well what can I Say about Platipus volume 4 accept that its an absolute masterpiece.

Every track is of the finest quality trance you are likely to encounter, indeed its hard to pick my favourites because they are all so good!

What this album shows is that this label have produced some astongishing tracks!

The kind of vibes you get from listening to this CD are Tribal / almost organic, trippy, deep and uplifting ones. Its also full of NRG and quite hard in places.

The producers on this label create rich complex tunes - these tracks take you on a journey!! Very atmospheric trance!

Great at a party or indeed in your bedroom : )

Now when this first came out I was obsessed with collecting all the platipus singles on vinyl and did follow the label for a while, there are various other album releases and artist albums that are definetly worth checking out by the likes of Art of Trance etc and I can highly recommend Union Jack - There will be no Armaggedon' Which was a released a couple of years before this.

However I think the label had peaked and although also very good ,the subsequent later Platipus volumes will never quite live up to this...

As with many things, the old ones are the good ones : )

This for me is what trance is all about, I wish there were people still making tracks like these..Maybe there is???

If I had to pick my favourite trance CD of alltime I think this one would be it.

If you dont own it then go out and get one NOW! you wont regret it.

Love this tune!!

Its got that dreamy emotional luvdup feel about it but without sounding commercial.

Very futuristic for its time with an ultra punchy banging kickdrum!!

Pretty timeless track really, simple but uplifting.

I dont paticularly like the way the hardtrance sound has gone over recent years, for me you can't beat the sound of yesteryear with tracks like this that actually have 'feeling', not just abrasive industrial meaningless noise!! - maybe im getting too old ; )

If you like your oldskool technodrome type tracks then check this one out, you will probably recognize it and fall back in love with it again as I did when I put an old React CD on the other day.

A special tune for sure!!
I agree with the previous reviewer.

Its got the type of sound I like but combined with too many cheesey elements which in my opinion ruin it.

The producers are obviously talented but have taken this album in too much of a commercial direction.

I like the vibe created by the kick drums and basslines they use and indeed some of the other sounds and If you took some of the cheesey elements away I think I would like it alot more.

Saying that yes I suppose it would be ok if you were playing somewhere where not everyone was into proper trance and you wanted soemthing nice and friendly, happy but a little bit banging too : )

The Gayle San mix was my first introduction to proper techno.

I have to say I disagree slightly with the previous review.
I suppose you could say Gayles mix was 'bland' but then this is minimal techno after all!

The Space DJs tune is good but its not the only nice track on here, my favouriet being Fred 'Horny as Fred', its got more of a breakbeat techno feel and is indeed very horny, well funky!!!

As for the spinbacks I actually like them, it gives the set a nice 'Live' Feel

I cant really comment on the other mixes.

I lost this CD many years ago untill recently when I aquired it from a discogs seller, was nice to remanice!

I would recommend the Gayle San mix to anyone who would like an intoduction to techno, and as with all music after a fiew listens it becomes better and better.

So whatever happenned to Universe?

Hard Trance with awesome melody and vocals!!!

"Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people will get to the promised land." - Martin Luther King.

When it breaks, everything goes mental. Guaranteed to rock the dance floor.

Was also released on Tidy Trax

all hard trance lovers should have this tune!
This track is what I would classify as truely a hard trance classic!

In my opinion Nostrums best production, and indeed one of the most anthemic underground hard trance tunes to come out of Germany.

Certianly a favourite tune of the legendary Mark EG, whom I heard spin this tune many times during the peak of the technodrome style parties at events like Dreamscape and Helter Skelter in the late 90's.

All 3 mixes on this tune are simular, the original is great but I must say I Prefer the '97 Mix, theres something about the extra haunting strings in the break. A very emotional uplifting futuristic journey! but with the fast underground feel I love! The trance mix is simular to the other 2 but has a slightly more piercing kickdrum sound.

Head straight for the Mark EG mix, Its absolutely superb!!!
As an avid fan of Mark EG I can tell you that this is probably the best hard trance mix comercially available. Forget the hardstyle sound of recent years, this is oldskool hardtrance at its most epic.

Everything from the tune selection to the mixing is amazing! Mark takes you on a truely epic mystical hard journey through dreamy tunes!
Some of the tracks even have a classical feel to them that works amazingly with the hard futuristic beats.

Highlights include Chris Source - 'Sunrise', Hitch Hiker & Jacques Dumondt 'Travelling' ,Mind Flux 'Unknown Destination' Nemesis 'I thought' + all the Mystic DJs tunes..Well infact every tune on Marks mix is a winner.

Ive been listening to this CD for nearly 10 years and I never get tired of it, it brings back sweet memeories of my youth!

Enjoy!
'Sunrise' What a quality track!!

I first heard it on slammin vinyls Absolute Hardcore Mark EG mix.

The sort of sound that made me love hard trance in the late 90's.

Hard,Uplifting,Futuristic,emotional & dreamy.

Once youve listened a few times you will be hooked

With its classic punchy kick and offbeat bassline and I just love the strings in the breakdown, truely an unforgetable track, if you like the oldskool hardtrance sound of M-zone and Mark EG then you need this record, trust me!
