What we have here, excepting the Jay-Z remix, is a straight up, modern bhangra album. Google it and find out more! It is basically a folk music style from India and Pakistan that has strongly embraced modern production techniques, as evidenced on this album. Discogs has no option for bhangra under their 'folk, world & country' genre, which is the main reason for this comment. So if you like this album, check out some other bhangra.

This one has been a slow burner for me. I bought it over 2 years ago (!). Who knows why i kept it, but here I sit, enthralled with it and amazed I'd never heard it this way before. The vocals on some of the tracks were what irked me on the first listen, but this time 'round they really are very much in the track, a part of the soundscape, not too needy, not too up front.
All of the tracks are well crafted, deep and beautiful, and while they're all electronic, some lean more towards idm, some towards ambient, some noise.. hell, one even sounded kinda grindy rock/blues! Ambient washes to bombastic shredded drum tracks, this album really is an amazing collection of sound.

Marcia Blaine School For Girls - Eponymous EP - 02-Jul-07 11:24 AM
Holy schnitzle. This thing rocks! Completely deep, epically haunting, these tracks will just pick you up and rip you open. Nothing to do but surrender and cry at the sheer majesty they conjure.
DeeDee's.. takes us on a slightly aquatic dub trip until the so fat drums drop and a sad/sweet melody takes us up. it oozes suffering, hurt, and the sheer beauty of heart-ache.
Slow Movements of.. starts with some rolling jazz-sound drums and floats along with some nice strings. A piano kicks in and our epic, ever morphing journey of steve reichian kalimbasand guitars begins. Majestic and understated. How do they do it?
The Invisible.. is just so fat it hurts. I will not and cannot begin to describe how amazing this track is on so many levels. This is what robot kids break to. Like plugging your brain into God.
Sometimes my.. shuffles along on fast keys and broken beats, slowly gathering density as new rythms weave into the track, morph, speed up and drop out. An inspiring and (dare I say?) tidy track, that splits open half way and throws the fattest of bass squiggles down, before it brings the goodness back and sets you down softly. It'll set yer head straight, flush your meds!

Barbara Morgenstern And Robert Lippok - Seasons - 30-Jun-07 07:30 PM
A hidden little gem, this is! All the things great electronica is: warm, mildly gritty, a touch abstract, impeccable melody.. wow! Every track just oozes intimacy and a sense of adventure and optmism. I want these tracks to follow me around all day please... recomended listening for those who enjoy smiling.

Global Goon - Cradle Of History - 30-Jan-07 12:19 AM
Pure brilliance, this is! Classic Rephlex brain dance of a somewhat comic leaning, but retaining enough dignity to flat out rock, this is Global Goon at his finest. Most tracks are bouncy and fat, with great little melodies weaving in and out, and the whole album just makes me smile on the inside.
