Sacred Hoop - Hoop-Legg
Sep 10, 2009
These songs almost never saw the light of day, but luckily (for the worldwide legion of Hoop fans) they're now available on a nice cheap disc - 16 tracks in all lasting 54 minutes. Luke Sick returns with his hearty flow while the beats are smoked by Vrse Murphy, Son Tiff and Extrakd/Brain, while the cuts are delivered by Djs Marz, Raw B and Flare. Curator drops a guest verse and the infamous Buckethead plays guitar on "Drunk Executioner." Sure, there are lots of songs about beer, girls and sucker crews, but NO ONE spits game like Sacred Hoop - one listen and you're hooked!
DJ P (2) - Hell On Wheels II
Sep 03, 2009
The mix and the music is the same as the original "Hell on Wheels 2" mix but this new version features new and improved artwork for the front and back covers, the insert and the design on the actual disc. Springfield, Missouri's most valuable deejay cuts'n'scratches his way through 70 minutes of ghoulish grooves and horror movie samples that will make every day your very own turntablist Halloween. Plus he's got tons of hip hop, rock, soul, electro, drum'n'bass, pop and funk, mixed, remixed (and I would say "mashed-up" if he didn't hate that term) and tweaked in a very special way. If you're a Z-Trip fan and enjoyed "Uneasy Listening," you'll probably dig this disc, too.
DJ P (2) - Lost Mix Tapes Volume 1
Sep 03, 2009
Just in time for the illest party ever! Proving that DJ P is not a one-trick pony (since he is best known for his mix with DJ Z-Trip), here is one of DJ P's classic old school electro and hip hop mixes, originally recorded in 1994 and displaying all of P's turntable creativity and skills. Great music, seamless mixing plus some early "Uneasy Listening"-like blends make this disc a timeless gem. 17 tracks lasting over 73 minutes that will make your head nod and your booty shake, all at the same time.
Insomniac - Polygonal Planet
Jul 22, 2009
How long have Bay Area rap fans been waiting for an Insomniac full-length? About 10 years, ever since ATAK sold those super-dope "Don't Sleep" tapes back in the day. Luckily Insomniac hasn't lost a bit of his cunning lyricism - he's got rhymes for days and days and days. Seriously, he gets nuts on this thing. Plus he's put some extraordinary noise makers behind him - producers Raggedy Andy (he's back, too!) and Spex and deejays D-Styles, Mike Boo, Ricci Rucker, Spex and Klingon Ron. If you thought that this couldn't get any better, another classic emcee has been resurrected - Jihad the Roughneck (from Third Sight) absolutely destroys the mic on the track "Natural Selection." This is how the Bay does it. 15 tracks lasting a piping hot 65 minutes.
Third Sight - Hypothermia / Tonto
Jul 22, 2009
Jihad the Roughneck and DJ D-Styles hit you off with a sweet piece of wax for dat azz. You'll snap your neck to three versions of the Raggedy Andy produced "Hypothermia" (album, clean and instrumental), two of "Tonto" (album and instrumental)(produced by Mr. Henshaw) plus the underground banger "Anti-Happy," produced by the nimble-fingered D-Styles. And please do not forget about the "Symbionese Liberation Album" and "The Golden Shower Hour" full-length albums - Third Sight rules!!
Controller 7 - Bozo Geek Blends
Dec 10, 2008
Underground producer/deejay and anticon satellite Controller 7 returns with a new 12-inch of rocking mash-blends. You get four bouncing cuts plus bonus beats to push the dance floor to the next level. The Cure + Pharcyde mix is pretty fantastic, plus the others are loads of fun, too. Slick Rick and Justin Timberlake?! Cypress Hill and E-40?! Awesome. Controller 7's skills and creativity are top notch. Thanks for the good time!
DJ P (2) - Suck My Mixx
Dec 01, 2008
After waiting awhile for DJ P's follow-up to "Uneasy Listening" and "Hell on Wheels 2," this fantastic mix is going to get TONS of play on your system. This time P focuses on his favorite sounds of the 80s music scene, including new wave and classic rock hits, and contemporary Top 40 pop, R&B and rap vocals. For example, he mixes the accapella of Usher's "Yeah" (feat. Ludacris) with the Thompson Twins' instrumental for "Hold Me Now", Outkast's "Roses" with Oran "Juice" Jones' "Walking in the Rain," and Kellis' "Milkshake" with Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger," even 50 Cent's "In Da Club" with AC/DC's "Back in Black," plus he switches it up with tracks like Public Enemy's "Bring the Noise" with Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." And if you needed more incentive, he even remixes hits by Coldplay, J-Kwon and Dr. Dre! The mix is divided into 26 tracks, lasts a bit over 73 minutes, and is laced with lots of tight scratches and filled with dope movie dialogue snippets, anything that keeps that 80s vibe rolling! This disc is extremely well produced and will spin heads wherever it's played.
DJ P (2) - Moodswings
Dec 01, 2008
This smashing sonic adventure from the infamous DJ P goes in a completely new direction from his previous mixtapes and cds as he divinely spins an electronica, acid jazz, club and dance mix for all the late-night party people. Of course he adds some of his classic scratching and beat juggling, but this is not a turntablist or hip hop mix (other than the quick Lyrics Born verse included in one of the tracks) – just straight dancefloor booty shakers and luxurious head nodders. 21 tracks lasting a sweaty 61 minutes.
Factor (2) - The Chandelier EP
Jun 19, 2008
Wowzers! Another beautiful picture disc on a thick piece of wax from the Ooh That's Heavy crew, this time featuring the wonderful button pushing of Factor along with the wonderful rhyme timing of Awol One, Josh Martinez, Myka 9, Ceschi, The Gaff and Sadat X.
The beats are as diverse as the emcees collected on this release, so every track is a treat. And you know the greatest thing about 7" EPs? All the songs are short and hot! Who has time for a 4-minute song these days?! Get up on it.

Reno, Nevada is rockin'! Well, at least Rajbot is on this extremely fresh instrumental cd - 22 tracks running 48 minutes. Lots of boom bap, interesting sounds and samples, a few live instruments plus some seriously banging drums.
If you enjoyed Rajbot's mostly instrumental "EP" 7" on Sedition Records, or his mostly rapping filled "Modern Complaints" cd on Spacement Records, you'll be impressed by the beats he has concocted for this release. Sometimes a dope beat cd is the perfect aural context for sitting on the couch with a glass of nice wine, or making moves on that "special" friend of yours, or entertaining guests at your housewarming party. If you want it, then Rajbot's got it. | ||||
