Autechre - Anti EP - 28-Nov-02 05:01 PM
Anti EP was meant to be a protest against the 'Criminal Justice Bill', which outlawed gatherings where music with repetitive beats were played (an anti "rave" bill). The cover features a sticker with this text:
"Warning: Lots and Djarum contain repetitive beats. We advise you not to play these tracks. If the Criminal Justice Bill becomes law. Flutter has been programmed in such a way that no bars contain identical beats and can therefore be played at 45 or 33 revolutions under the proposed law. Howeve we advise DJs to have a lawyer and musicologist present at all times to confirm the non repetitive of the music in the event of police harrasment.
Important: By breaking this seal, you accept full responsibilty for any consequential action resulting from the products use, as playing the music contained within these recordings may be interpreted as oppostion to the Criminal Justice and Public Order Bill."
Squarepusher - Do You Know Squarepusher - 05-Oct-02 06:54 PM
Apart from the title track and "Annstrom-Feck 4", this is a mediocre release from the pusher, at it's best. "Mutilation Colony" is an ok piece of ambience, but that's it.
However, the immense quality of "Do You Know Squarepusher" (previously released as the untitled WAP155) makes this album more than worth it's price. If you haven't already got that one on vinyl, then this is a must indeed.
The best track released on Warp ever? It's up there for sure.
"Squarepusher's your fucking daddy. Makes all different styles of drum and bass."
2 Many DJ's - As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 - 26-Sep-02 04:28 PM
A perfect mix if I ever heard one. At least until I found the secret Kylie Minouge track. Now that's just cheesy. I'll take Dolly Parton over Minouge any day.
KLF, The - 03-May-02 08:48 AM
The acronym KLF has been known to stand for a lot of different things, but the most commonly used by KLF themselves is Kopyright Liberation Front.
KLF has a very interesting history. Some teasers: changing billboards with grafitti to show KLF or JAMS, firing a machinegun at a shocked BritAwards audience, spoofing an art award with twice the price money, buying tv-spots and full page advertisements in large magazines for mentioned spoof award, burning one million pound sterling (that's £1.000.000) while filming the event.. and lots more. Go check out a decent biography website on them.
Boards Of Canada - Geogaddi - 16-Apr-02 05:15 AM
Trivia:
On the track Dandelion you can hear Leslie Nielsen speaking (voice-over from a nature film by the National Film Board of Canada)
The smallest weird number is 70. BoC's own label is Music70.
The total length of this cd is 66:06 (66 minutes and 6 seconds. The devil is in the details :)
The woman mentioned in 1969 is Amo Bishop Roden (from 'In a beautiful place in the country'). The voice says 'Although not a follower of hseroK divaD, she's a devoted branch davidian' (Branch Davidian was a sect led by David Koresh). Track length is 4:19 the Branch Davidian Camp David 'massacre', in Waco Texas, occured on April 19, 1993, or 4-19-93.
There's also supposed to be several messages to be heard when you play the music backwards ('A is to B as B is to C'. 'You could feel the sky').
