Maarten van der Vleuten Vs Use Of Ashes, The - The Ice Mixes - 24-Jan-05 12:36 AM
Actually it is very strange how I got to do this remix.

When I was about 16/17 years old I was completely into New Wave and experimental synthesizer bands, and one of my favorites was Mekanik Kommando. So last year (2004) I finally found their debut album for sale on the internet. (I only had it on a cassette from a friend for 24 years). The guy who sold it to me turned out to be the owner of Tonefloat, their current record company. (after they changed their name into The Use of Ashes). He then mailed me that they just recently had been talking about dance mixes of their new tracks to broaden their audience but they had not find any remixers so far, and now they found me (or I them...)
...and so it was agreed that I would be making the remixes...

The other amazing thing about it is that I just started producing again (I didn't record any music for two years due to a lot of personal shit) and I was really trying to find out where my position was in the dance scene after two years of silence.

We all fellt like this was more than just a coincidence.

Technical stuff...
For the remixes I used only the intro of the track "Northstar", and the beats, the white noises and vocals (all cut-up from the 90 bpm original) of "Ice And The Snowbeetles". (taken from their album Ice 67).

Human Resource - Dominator (Re-Remixes) - 23-Dec-04 01:05 AM
I did this remix just for plain fun and it was a freebee for R
I thought it was a great track but it could use something "extra". No offense to the original, but that one was not too fast and in my opinion too soft.

So what I basically did was this;
I sampled the voices of the original track (I had no studio take-outs, just the R compilation album) and used them repetative like the house classics did. (dominator domi-domi-nator domidominator etc...) I added a loop from LNR for the basis, created new melodies and added some breaks (like if a dj was crossfading other tracks but they where technically impossible)
The breaks I used where; LNR, CJ Bolland, Outlander, DHS.

After Renaat heard it he immediately decided to put it on this release because of it's originality and it's energy.

The mix was mastered on a 4-track cassette!

Maarten & Tjeerd - Lunetten EP - 21-Sep-04 06:11 AM
This was a one-off project Tjeerd and I did for U-Trax.
Once in a while we got together in the studio and record some tracks. At one point we collected some and Tjeerd played them for DJ White Delight, the owner of the label.
So two co-productions were selected (MT 34 and Fusion) one remake I did of one of Tjeerd's tracks (101) and two tracks Tjeerd recorded alone (Winter and Ice).

The name Lunetten was used because that was our connection. Tjeerd lived in the part of the city Utrecht that was called "Lunetten" and I lived near a 19th century defense-bastion for the city of Den Bosch, also called "Lunetten".

Mantrax - Scarlet Circus - 19-Jul-04 03:50 AM
This was only released as a two track (black label) promo as far as I know. (And I was one of the producers)
Actually it is a white label, but because the label itself was black, with no info at all, and the fact that Renaat liked to "play around" with mysterious releases -like the TZ-series- is why it was called "The Black Label")

We, Renaat Vandepapeliere, David Morley and myself recorded it in the R studios. It was all done in one take. (you can hear that if you listen to it carefully, there were some minor mistakes like opening a wrong fader or trying some 303 basslines)

David and I just finished recording the TZ7 12" and because we still had access to the studio all night we started to play around with the 303 and some samples I brought.
I programmed some drums, David some basslines and when Renaat came in later that night he freaked out and said; Let's record it! I wanna do a live mix. Let's have some fun here!
So Renaat stood there like a pilot in his cockpit and really got carried away. It was great!
After he finished the mix he wanted to edit it and cut out some parts to shorten it but he loved it so much he just kept it in it's original version.

The next day I left and David recorded the B-side.

and that's the story...

Black Dog, The - Vanttool - 01-Nov-02 04:26 PM
Techno Island is in fact the R studio which was coincidentally (almost) surrounded by water.
It's a huge villa with the studio in the middle of the living room.

It is also a fact that it is also not too far from the centre of Gent.
