Emmanuel Top - Asteroid
Jun 18, 2008
I´m listening this right now! All I can say is that Emmanuel Top belongs amongst the greatest electronic music producers of all time!
Whole album is full of extreme noises and experimental soundscapes. Just listen the second track and compare it to the modern dubstep sound. Very experimental and same time very very minimal. I think Richie Hawtin and pals must have taken a lot of influence for the minimal sound they are presenting today. Most of the track contain well produced acid lines (the same way mister Top´s other classic releases, such as So Cold and Turkish Bazar). The tracks also last very long... they might have moments when you think that something is ending but suddenly the track re-emerges and the hypnothic vibe turns the final gear on! All in all, this should be considered as a firm classic!
Red Sun - This Love

This one had somekind of problems with the samples used in the production during the release time, at least I remember that there were such... That might be the reason for so small amount of compilation coverage the record got those days.
The Ourhouse remix describes in excellent way the 96-98 proghouse sound, a very lovely summer vibes all over the production. Overall, a very strong release from Hooj. If you like this, check out Ourhouse production and remixes on Perfecto, you wont be disappointed!
Incisions - Beyond Motion
May 15, 2008
I know that many of you describe the Beyond Motion track here the best one on this ep. but in my opinion the original version of Techno Gong is something you should check out!
Very subtle progression leads to a breakdown with sonar bleebs and after few moments, one of the finest acid lines comes out and turns this one to a 90´s style acid trance at it´s best! I´m very much fond of this type of sound from the end of the last millennia. It´s also representative of Mac Zimms great works from that era. I also tracked down the vinyl a very long time before discogs came along and I´m very proud owner of this today (despite the low prices shown here on the sales page).
Kopfuss Resonator - Spect-® Module
May 13, 2008
I was visiting Berlin Loveparade in summer 1999 and one of the after parties were located at Tempodrome (or something). The Party was called Wings of Love and it had two arenas. The first one was between these huge building blocks (the street was blocked form both ends) and the second one was a huge psychedelic tent.
I remember seeing the poster somewhere around the city and spotted Kopfuss Resonator announced to play live. Later we got to the place and my friends were so enthusiastic about the mainstream acts on the big venue that I completely missed the psy-tent. I regret that more than anything, because this album proves the Kopfuss Resonator guys being extremely innovative and talented producers. This sounds sort of minimal psytechno with lots of drive. I think that any of these tracks played in todays minimal techno set would blow the roof off! All the tracks are full of weird effects, driving basslines and hypnotic soundscapes that create a completely original structure. They have their own sound that is easily recogniced and unique in sense of giving the minimal, yet energetic feel on the dance floor. My favourites are Redsprite, Kein Traum and Whipbird. Buy this if you can!
Friends, Lovers & Family - Fortunes Fool
May 06, 2008
This is something that is forgotten and should have received much more attention. I mean the Quietman remix which is excellent!
The original and Waldo remix are both sounding pretty silly now but did make a point at those times, however Quietman reveals much more complex and sophisticated proghouse version. The track is based on Leonardo di Caprios shouting from the Romeo and Juliet movie adaptation about being the Fortunes Fool. That also sums up the fate of this track. It wasn´t licensed to many compilations or dj mixes as you can see from the Discogs. I´m not sure what happened. Was it that this was released during time when there was insane amounts of progressive house tracks flung out to orbit or perhaps the fact that this is the second last release of the Lush imprint and they ran out of marketing budget? It still has one of the most beautiful melody running through it completed with fine acid line in the middle. The mastering is a bit stale. I wish someone would polish the sounds and make a decent remix of it.
Mark Tyler - London Let's 'Ave Yer!
Apr 30, 2008
This track was strangely released in Helsinki, Finland (at least the party flyer said so). The release party was held in the club called Vertigo (which ruled the hard house scene in Finland during that time). If I remember right the speakers kind of exploded during Mark´s set and the club was evacuated. Later in the next Muzik magazine there was this saints and sinners page where Mark ended up as a sinner for blowing up the release party.
Anyway, the original track is a really strong and evil piece of driving techno with a long (almost 2 minutes) breakdown shouting the tracks name... Remixes are also fine (Jon the Dentist one being dark hard trance and OD404 giving the hoover treatment) and you might know the OD404 version of this easier, but I stick to the original one, recommended! | ||||
There is not that much of those hard hitting party anthems but I could still invent some clever use for some of those tracks in club environment too. Above all this is something where you get sucked in and leave your mind wandering in a dark waters for hours and hours!
Can´t wait to put it back to the plate again!
