Massive Attack - 100th Window
May 28, 2009
An album unduly slated as a disappointment compared to previous Massive Attack output, which couldn't be further from the proof. Six years on and unsuspecting compositions like "Everywhen" and "Smalltime Shot Away" are as poignantly deep and emotive today as they were upon release. Reverent, reserved, brooding and foreboding, this is my personal favorite MA album (with Mezzanine trailing somewhat behind) and I'm anxiously awaiting the new material set for release in 2009.
Various - Way Out There - A Progressive DJ Mix
Mar 13, 2009
The highly regarded "breakout" compilation that spawned a world famous Internet radio mix show can't be half bad, and it just so happens to be stellar, showcasing Jody's unique DJ style that effortlessly spans genres with the grace of a ballet dancer and the tenacity of a bull rider. Deep, dubby and dirty house, uplifting and pumping prog, heady and mental breaks and chugging/hypnotic techno all await you on this journey. Essential listening bar none.
Telefon Tel Aviv - Immolate Yourself

Please don't compare TTA to the fly-by-night template success of Gabriel & Dresden, the latter of whom have broken up proving the overall absence of their artistic merit. TTA made brilliant music for a decade, with 3 artist albums to their credit. This album showed their capability of branching out for a third time after their first two albums, this time encompassing a synthpop and retro aesthetic but with enough glitch and atmosphere to make the album all their own.
RIP Charlie Cooper.
This is a seminal album of the 90s as far as electronic dance music goes, not soon to be forgotten as it still sounds every bit as good today as it did 14 years ago. It should also be noted this is *NOT* Underworld's debut album (they released several unmentionables in the 80s); however, this is the first album from the then rejuvenated Underworld under the artistic/production direction of Darren Emerson who has sadly long left Underworld for a solo career and DJ stint.
This is a great chronicling of Fluke's history and the inclusion of a handful of trax that were only available on vinyl prior is reason enough for any Fluke aficionado to add this to his/her collection.
It should be noted that at least one remix on the third disc was done by an additional artist according to the credits. The Europicolamix of "Squirt" was a joint effort between Spooky and Fluke themselves. | ||||
