Modernist, The - Collectors Series Pt. 1 - Popular Songs - 25-Sep-06 12:29 AM
This is a lovely mix of electronic pop for bedroom listening. Its more than a little reminiscent of Triple Rs "Friends" mix from a couple years back, not least because it includes the Superpitcher remix of Dntel & Oxtongues "Delight" (uncredited, at the start of the Richard Davis track), the one-two punch that ended that mix, though the Modernists mix is a bit more poppy than Triple Rs techno. Best moments: first, his resurrection of Autosundmädchens "All the World Loves Lovers", a track that deserved far more exposure than it got. And closing with Scritti Polittis "The Boom Boom Bap", a love song to hip hop which makes a beautiful end-of-the-night song.
Field, The - Things Keep Falling Down - 03-Jan-06 08:55 AM
"Thought vs Action" is fairly astonishing the second half (released by itself as "Action" on Kompakt Total 6) samples the introduction to The Four Tops "Reach Out, Ill Be There", then drags it out over six minutes. Id love to hear more from these guys.
Benjamin Diamond

Connective Zone - Inner Cycle / Function - 05-Dec-05 11:57 PM
Both tracks on this are beautiful, but the Benjamin Diamond one is astonishing. It could go on for twice as long and Id be quite happy to listen to it. Kudos to M. Mayer for kicking off this label - this is a great start.
