Concord Dawn - Disturbance - 08-Jan-03 01:08 AM
9 tracks full-power, smashing drum 'n bass. Sometimes rather monotonous, but always kicking in hard. This is real dark and evil drum 'n bass, straight from New Zealand.
Notwist, The - Shrink - 11-Nov-02 12:30 PM
This record was released on Zero Hour, a record company that no longer exists. Therefore this record is no longer available. If you happen to stumble upon it (second-hand), go buy it!
From start to finish, this record amazed me with beautiful melodies, the fragile voice of Markus Acher, modest laidback brass, the perfect mixture of electronic sounds and ordinary instruments, i could go on for hours, just get yourself a copy!
Quantic - Apricot Morning - 07-Oct-02 12:36 PM
What a blessing and a curse Internet can be! Without it I would never have stumbled upon Quantic, by hearing him on an internet-radio station with 'Life In The Rain' and consequently downloading his new CD, 'Apricot Morning'. Without it I would also never have had to start the terrible quest for this CD in almost every record-store in Holland (I still don't have it, any suggestions are welcome!) After kicking in with the title track, it remains exciting, sometimes laidback, sometimes uplifting, but always very well crafted. All kinds of jazzy samples, funky beats and what else (Quantic seems to have hired a complete brass section for this CD) make listening to this CD very enjoyable. This man's a genius and he deserves my money, even if I had to get the CD from abroad!
Amon Tobin - Out From Out Where - 07-Oct-02 12:23 PM
I only knew Amon Tobin from his last CD, Supermodified. That CD strangely enough never really appealed to me. It had some very good songs on it, like '4 ton mantis', but the CD on the whole was rather incomprehensible and inaccesible. With this record, all that changed. What remained, were incredible heavy beats, intense 'soundscapes' (man, i hate that word) and music that keeps you stunned for minutes after the CD has ended. Amon Tobin has made his music accesible for 'the man in the street' (supposedly like me...) but has even so created a CD that is so intense you will be stunned for sure...
Layo & Bushwacka! - Night Works - 07-Oct-02 12:14 PM
After having a hard time finding it at the record store (it supposed to be at 'house' but it turned out to be stored at 'progressive techno') i listened to this record, and found out why the record store had had such a hard time to classify this record. Varying from 'instrumental hiphop' to flat-out 'dance' and anything in between, L! have created an album so unbelievably consistent yet so inventive and varying. At least give it a try!
