Reviews & Discussion:
"I was young and arrogant and my ideas were unformed,I spoke boldly before I knew all the facts".Darwin never said this on his death bed in reference to his theory of evolution(much to the chagrin of many latterday monotheists); But I am saying it now, about the review of Hitori + Kaiso that I wrote here last year. The fact is,that Hitori + Kaiso may be some of the most subtley stunning and visonary material Eric Kowalski has ever unveiled. It isn't the first time an album I utterly detested at first turned out to be a diamond in the rough, and,so long as I am sentient and subject to the laws of nature of humanity,I don't mind making mistakes now and again; So long as I can admit they are mistakes ,learn from them, and move forth. Its just a reminder that while the reviews we read and write here may bear some influence on us as an audience, the opions voiced are always subjective and as vulnerable to change as the universe itself.I'm just glad that it was my myopic perspective, and not Eric Kowalski's aesthetic vehicle that was faulty.
Whether or not this ep is named after the small peaceful community of Seal Beach California,(a mere two hour drive from Jimmy LaValle's own home town of San Diego),I don't know, but if not,- then the comparisons are uncanny.
Both Seal Beach's (the city and the record)evoke an aura of calm inner sanctuary that cannot be described -only experienced, both are small in stature (Seal Beach the city barely stretching out for one square mile,Seal Beach the e.p. clocking in at just under half an hour) yet immense in spirit and character, and last but not least, both Seal Beach's are a little bit different each time that you visit them, and always for the better. Kudos to Jimmy LaValle for having the vision, talent and purity of spirit to draw such a stunning parallel, whether intentional or not.
12" of all too brief bliss! This is unargueably THE BEST debut ep since Herrmann & Kleine's 'Transalpin'!Delicious downtempo glitchpop and abstract (albeit gorgeous) melodies flow etherially over hypnotic beats and the overall effect is that of something akin to an outerbody experience. If Morr or City Centre Offices doesn't pick up on these guys ,I'd be really suprised, can't imagine where they'd fit in better.
AMBiT3's 'Enwrapped' is a brilliant fusing of minimalistic glitch/clicks & cuts and beautiful downtempo melody, this is really reminiscent of what might happen if Frank Bretschneider of Komet were to collaborate with someone like ISAN or Einoma.Amazing!I would recommend this album to anyone who is looking for something new in minimalism. The best ep Since Clicket's self titled release.
Fans of ISAN,E Vax,Lullatone,Manual,Opiate,MuM (Iceland),Super Science/Clue To Kalo,Herrmann & Kleine,Ulrich Schnauss and Solvent HEADS UP!-here is a man of IMMENSE talent, honesty, and passion.Beautiful arrangements,Superb production, and a wonderful array of playful chill style pop and melancholy moods.I can't think of a better way to spend the summer afternoons.

Chris Clark is an incredibly gifted young talent who is undoubtedly destined to join the list of IDM's better known luminaries such as Autechre,Aphex Twin,Bogdan Raczynski,Venetian Snares and ISAN.Two albums (Clarence Park and Empty The Bones Of You),One ep (Ceramics Is Da Bomb),and No Filler anywhere!Sell Your clothes,Your car, your house - Your Soul!Whatever it takes, but get the dough and buy these records!
Lexaunculpt
May 11, 2004
Anyone who thinks electronic music is incapable of capturing the purer essences of human passion, spirit,or emotion, has not yet been blessed to hear the brilliant and sublime songs of Lexaunculpt. This is music that will not fade away with any genre's passing, for this is music far too genuine to fall into any categorical snares. If You have not heard Lexaunculpt,You are really missing out on something too amazing to describe.

This is phenomenal stuff! If You are a fan of Autechre,Chris Clarke,Bogdan Raczynksi,Aphex Twin,or Mu-Ziq,then You definitely want both the 'Panes'ep and full length debut'Winking Makes A Face'.Terse, phantasmagoric textures of vividly striking string theory thetawaves sine and sweep over whiplash warble and wicked tempos, and Damn It Man,I cannot stop listening to either of these!Fearlessly innovative and never predictable (and with a name like 'Tadd'You've got to try harder than the others!)-Solid Proof that Ghostly International delivers the goods time and again! These records deserves six stars out of five!
André Estermann - Balloon
Apr 28, 2004
Andre Estermann is phenomally talented, and sadly underappreciated.I should like to have this album with me the next time I am ankle deep in the Ocean and drifting in my minds eye throughout my favorite childhood memories,or while I am first waking atop a mountain peak with the sun sifting sideways in golden swan apple orchards,yes-it's much that sort of an experience.without this in Your collection,You will never have a true appreciation of the full spectrum of possibilities that IDM artists are capable of.It does sound a bit like Autechre yeah, and some like Chris Carter too!
