Dag Nasty - Can I Say - 27-Dec-07 08:24 AM
This is such a GREAT album, together with the Rites Of Spring LP and the Embrace LP this defines what was great about the DC scene in the mid-80ies: Hardcore growing up without losing its energy, deep thoughtful lyrics that go beyond simple paroles.
Everything fits perfectly, great melodic walls of guitars (By far the best recording Brian Baker ever did, a basic influence on todays "emo" and neo-punk bands like Blink 182), the typical Don Zientara drum sound and a singer that could not be more emotional. A record that is almost melting by its own warmth.
Youth Of Today - Can't Close My Eyes E.P. - 05-Oct-07 05:52 AM
This record is soo rare and I think theres no SxE kid out there that would not like to own a copy. But, let me assure you - this is by far the worst YOT release and it sounds even worse than the remixed 12" version. This recording does not have any of the bursting energy and the spirit YOT developed later on albums like "Were Not In This Alone".
This is just weak teenie-punk. Save your money for better records - dont believe the hype about this disappointing record.
Interpol - Remix - 25-Sep-07 12:58 PM
Though I cannot wait to get ANY Interpol - release as soon as it is available and though I normally have the habit to totally freak out when listening to them for the first time - this one made me feel quite disappointed when i got it. Yes - this box set is a nice collectible and looks really great - but the remixes included here are all quite boring, more like wannabe - remixes. nothing is done to the songs that would lead them to a new (or any other interesting) direction. In fact, this boredom is spread over four records, so the band might have had the hope that in the end no one would ever listen to the whole thing, so the weakness of the material could have been hidden in a way. The better strategy would have been not to release this at all. But: This box looks sooo nice...
