Profile: Amateur Dj specialising in 1974-1979 DISCO music as well as Disco-house (1999-). When I say disco, I mean it the funky, miami influenced, very energetic boogie. The one that make you dance while your soul gets horny. In my more relaxing moments, I listen to chillout/balearic ambient music. I live in Athens, but was mixing semi-professionally in northern France for years.I only list on discogs and rate a good selection of disco classics. My 4/5 refers to a very good party song and 5/5 a must-have in your collection, if you like true disco music and you are a vinyl lover.

Gwen Guthrie - Peanut Butter - 09-Jun-08 12:18 PM
Porn-disco at its best. Sexy, tight, creating a luxurious atmosphere like the early Playboy parties at the Mansion. Nice, slow groove, hot vocals and a global spicy feeling. Also check the excellent Larry Levan mix of the track (I only found the remix on Dimitris yellow After the Playboy Mansion). The pressing of the vinyl is also great. I dont know what else to say but I am supposed to type at least 75 words as a comment, even if this song does not need any further description-just listen to it loud!
Debbie Jacobs - Undercover Lover / Don't You Want My Love - 09-Jun-08 11:51 AM
Lately I have been losing my trust to the discogs usersratings. Of course, they represent a personal point of view, but when you see a disco song with an average of 5 out of 5 from all users, you would believe its a great song. Not with this one anyway. Mediocre, monotone vocals, flat, uninteresting music at 135 bpm, this is a shame for disco in my opinion. Sorry guys, but I dont sell my collection, to rate it 5/5 in order to get rid of it!
Full Intention - It's Set To Groove - 23-Dec-07 02:05 AM
Quite commercial, this mix can still be considered as "funky house music" due to the funky flute (which I dont know if its a Full Intentions creation or a sample taken from somewhere else). But its more club-oriented blend. The basics remain pure disco: A female vocalist repeats all the time "its set to groove", certainly taken from the the 1980 song "its just a groove" of Glen Adams Affair. As for the background music (yes its the music that comes and goes, not the vocals), its Giorgio Moroders "The Chase", theme from the film "Midnight Express". Thank you Full Intention for spreading the disco sound to the younger generation.
Fatback Band, The - Spanish Hustle - 23-Dec-07 01:06 AM
Wow, where to begin with this song... The Fatback Band is an extremely talented ensemble that delivered many all-time classics that still sound far better than similar disco music. It is not a coincidence that I consider them as #1 among many others in my huge disco selection. Certainly very dance-oriented, this rare and very sought-after single contains their best song. The "Spanish Hustle" is an extremely dynamic latin-flavoured disco song with strong synth, and saxophone elements. The vocals are minimal but necessary to make the song sound so nice. The quality of the pressing is also excellent. So, we have 3 versions: a) Side one, the 5.54 version which is the best as its the most dynamic-pure party fever. It also features the tightest TK disco-style percussions, so the song easily also fits in a summery, exotic TK sounding set. But dont let my advise fool you: the song makes a warm atmosphere, so it can be a success all year long into your disco set! The bpm vary between 121 and 124 which is just fine. The B side has 2 versions. The 5.16 (=the album version), 124bpm, is less dynamic, less percussions, but more vocals and saxophone. And the 3.28 version is a shorter version of the A side version. Its also a great addition to a funky house collection. Remember the summer 1999 hit "Spanish Hustle" by Full Intention (Dtension records, 001)? Here you have the original. Get this song if you love real dance music. But dont overplay the vinyl! Its a rare item that requires care-and please wrap it in a polylined sleeve to extend its life...
Asha* - I'm Gonna Dance / Music Machine (Dedication To Studio 54) - 28-Jul-07 12:18 PM
This 12", like some other T.K. disco 12" of the same series, deserve special attention. This one for the globally warm feeling. "I am gonna dance" is a soft, sexy, yet hot warm-up disco track. The instrumental electro beat at 2m34s-3m58s is also a cool feature. But the reason this 12" deserves a top rating is the b side song: Really great vocals (among the sexiest out there) and a strong bassline give to this one a dramatic and all-time-classic feeling.
