Crashed By Car - Fictions & Fires EP - 05-Mar-08 10:57 AM
This release just goes to show you that amazing music doesn't have to come at a price; this stuff is free and the quality and production is comparable to anything you'll hear in the genre of experimental electronica. This is some of the best atmospheric illbient/ambient with soft, melodic touches of piano. With its chill, dreamy, melodramatic ambiance and subtle broken beats at times it sounds somewhat reminiscent to Phonem, Biosphere, or Arovane. "Full Speed Dead" could very well be one of the most beautiful electronic tunes ever composed... That said, the only flaw of this EP is that it is way too short, I could listen to this stuff for ever.
Dither - Amek - 10-Apr-06 04:04 AM
Absolutely beautiful and carefully crafted release. Compared to "Summit", "Amek" has a somewhat darker and more enigmatic feel to it, a lot like "Urei". However, unlike "Urei", the tracks are mixed together, making the album’s sound more consistent. The quality is top-notch, everything that you might like about Dither is there – creative broken beats layered upon repetitive, yet intricate ambient soundscapes and sporadic synths and bleeps. Dither pays a great deal of attention to every minor detail, every one of which is vivid and harmonious with the others. The only negative point is that the last 24 minute track, which is in fact quite stunning, only lasts for about 9 minutes and after that there is 15 minutes silence.
Mlada Fronta - Fe2O3 - 16-Jan-06 01:50 AM
This album is so good it should be displayed at the Louvre, or rather played there for the visitors to enjoy. Here Mlada Fronta delivers 160 minutes of pure drive and brilliant soundscapes. This album is so diverse music genre-wise that any listener would be able to find something interesting for them. The first CD is a set of the more atmospheric tunes with Rémy’s signature dark flavour of industrial electronica. It may be not as loud as the second CD but it is sure as hell not less intense. When I first listened to Cu 63.55 it completely blew my mind away with its tense ambient theme and chilling vocal samples. Here you also have wonderful remixes by Dither, Orphx, and Savak, which definitely add to the overall experience. The second CD is an exceptional collection of terrifying beats and drum sequences: drum and bass, power noise, breakbeat, progressive house, so much more. Every track here is unique and stands out, and the only thing that they have in common is the flawless production and a massive stream of non-stop energy. Steal this album!
Prodigy, The - Voodoo People / Out Of Space - 10-Dec-05 02:05 AM
This is a quite disappointing compilation. After marking their 15th year milestone with the release of the greatest hits album, the band decided to put out a bunch of remixes for their older tunes. Pendulum produced a decent drum'n'bass inspired track, with some nice reconstruction and overall feel, its not great, but it is probably the best track of the whole CD. The Wonder remix is just boring, and while the idea of slowing down this fast techno masterpice is not a bad one, the execution leaves the listener wanting for more creativity and inventiveness, and less repetitiveness. Same can be said for the Sub Focus remix of "Smack My Bitch Up". It is mediocre drum'n'bass where the main drums sequence sounds identical to Pendulum's remix of Voodoo People. Plus it was a bad idea to make a drum'n'bass remix in the first place, since there are already two wonderful d'n'b mixes out - DJ Hype's excellent, fast and rough mix, and a beautiful atmospheric mix from Jonny L. And finally closing this cd, there are two remix tracks of "Out Of Space" from the Audio Bullys, the radio edit and the extended version. Audio Bullys completely butchered this rave classic, so that the mixes sound absolutely horrible. This is a very poorly done job and I can't belive Liam approved of it. The added vocals, with stupid and nonsense lyrics and pop sounding house make this the worst mix ever made for The Prodigy. Overall, if you want to hear some quality remixes, then get the older single releases for these tracks.
Dither - Urei - 03-Dec-05 07:38 AM
Dither never stops experimenting. Here he gives us a taste of all kinds of different textures, soundscapes, and moods. The general mood is, of course, dark and gloomy, with a touch of industrial roughness. Textures are complex and derive from his signature "choppy" beats layered upon the sequential ambient loops, repeating over and over again. Great music that takes you a while, at least a couple of listens to appreciate it to the full extent. Tracks worth mentioning: #2 - glitchy and beautiful; #4 - very calm and dark; #10 - sounds similar to early Autechre, very well done.
