The original version starts off OK, but by the annoying backing "whoo's" of the chorus it's all over - very disappointing.Mr. Braxe is not able to steer clear of the original and the result is weak if still an improvement. A total contrast and happy surprise awaits on the flip, where the Studio guys deliver a slow, sharp-witted spannish guitar spangled dub (with added mandolins!) that makes total sense of Kylie's vocals and sounds so fresh that it's hard to believe that it's even related to the sad original. Pure perfection. ...The picture disc itself? What!? Could she be more tantalizing?
Blasting Goa Acid in an Old Skool style - the A side stands and deliver! The soothing strings/voice sound that accompany this journey have been given a full tranquil and meditative side of their own, rolling like waves which, quite understandable, is a total contrast to the full-on A side. Feast and relaxation - Enjoy!
This is just a very bad and boring release and has nothing of the vigour, joy, intelligence, playfullness or any other positive adjective that I normally connect with the Art Of Noise. The incarnation of nothing. Whoever participated here gets no respect for this total waste of time. Utter disgrace.
The Son Kites and K.A.B. team up to do a prog trancer - slightly spiked with an uplifting touch - a bit too safe for my liking, but still enjoyable.B sees K.A.B. strolling on his own deep into dreamy and almost feverish minimalistic territory. The drum pattern is soft and hypnotic and the slow surging cymbal-like sounds gives guidance as the ride-cymbal tinkles along. I firmly believe this "hidden track" would mesmerize quite a few if they were to stumble upon it. A master piece.
Even though I'm not too fond of the original version, this promo has an exquisite Stuart Price remix that puts the dancin' back on track - with the mandatory electric bass nu disco feel and sparse use of the vocals - I feel like dancin'!The Linus Loves Dub is a really funny and quirky cut up voices electro that enables the vocals to reach new heights - totally recognizable but out of place or rather, going new places! Sadly, I do doubt that my copy is an original/official promo. All about it signals that it's a boot by hard to find records. With this warning I wish you luck in finding the real deal.
OK, it's a true cheesy euro-cover on that old Don Henley song no-one remembers anyway, and the extended mix fullfills any desire in this expected pattern. I actually quite like it, somehow - as much as I don't like Don Henley. Happy days. (The Original Extended Version/Original Mix, not available here, is far superior, though.)Humate has also been invited, and instead of killing the track out of offence, they make an earnest and dark interpretation, keeping all the vocals, adding a bass that surges and swoons... Deep, strong, unexpected and BRILLIANT!! Unrequited love at its best.
The original is cool and must be considered as a classic in it's own right - a peak performance by thee electroid feline.BUT!! On the flip we got the fav Thin White Duke doing his Master Degree in Remixing. Once again. A build-up of strings brings us to a churning acidic bass-line, Miss Kittin's indifferent recitals calms/adds to the almost ominous tension, a dirty rock-bass definitely elevates this dreamy and ecstatic journey to a new level and the result is a bouncy and swaggering party that transcends any given genre - an incessant synth hook is the final touch to this Masterpiece that leaves us with the strings that introduced us. Hear the music. Go with the flow. |

Maybe it sounded good to someone in the mid 90's but to me it's sounds totally dated and like a poor mans early Orbital. Maybe it approaches decent in parts, but there are no full enjoyable tracks. The fact that disc 3 got duplicated on disc 4 in spite of artwork doesn't impress either. Even if I was spared from further misery, there could have been a good track on disc 4, apart from "Real" (actually an intriguing track as a filler) that was featured on Trance Europe Express 2.
In short - this record is beyond boredom. Avoid.
