Absolutely brilliant stuff here!! A must have.
He might have tried to reproduce the same effect in 'xtep' and 'rediffusion' but the inspiration was too high in that period.

Is Mike making fun of listeners with the ending of "Green Lanes"?

Newsletter from Planet Mu today:

"Due to overwhelming demand we have decided to repress a further 200 copies of the Somerset Avenue Tracks album by Mu-Ziq. We shall be selling this only via the Planet Mu site and this will be the last time this album will be available on vinyl. The re-press 2LP will be shipping at the end of March."

Amazing collection of beautiful little gems. Being released on CD and digital later in the year for those who missed out on the vinyl. These tracks are among MP's very best. I am currently in love with Vinxel, which wouldn't sound out of place on SAW 85-92, but the whole album is great, there's even a track that sounds like Cylob at his most mental. Fans of Green Lanes from the µ-Ziq Peel session are in for a treat as it sounds beautiful in its digitally remastered form. Although I just drew comparison to two other artists, these tunes are 100% µ-Ziq too, his own distinctive and idiosyncratic style and spacey melodies are present throughout. The vinyl-exclusive Volume 2, which is a collection of WAVs available on an exclusive card included in the packaging, is also really great, not a single boring or bad track, but admittedly the best stuff is on volume 1.

I've heard that the plan is to repress on CD if the demand is high enough. Make sure Planet µ knows that you want it, and then hold tight for a reasonably priced repress. But if the high prices stick, then this has -everything- to do with record collecting!

Wow, since long time I've heard about his shoeboxes of DATs and now we get to hear them! Or at least those lucky enough to have been able to jump upon one of the meagre 300 copies of this. It's been a cruel mystery to me why Mike changed his style in '95 and here we have a genuine deluge of those prized beasts that are his early HR16'd Alesis Quadraverbed, distorto-lushed marvels. And what's this? A volume 2 simultaneously!? And it's just as good!
I'm just coming to the end of the first (edit: now second) listen through of both volumes and am left feeling very happy. Inevitably the quality varies, but there are definately some goosebump moments (eg. Vinxel, Diala, Toss) if you got that from his other stuff from this era. The unassuming beginning, the melody, the rhythm, the development, it all coming together..... These works are as highly organised as anything conceived by Schoenberg. God I love Vinxel!
