as evil-ed say this is a very interesting listen, but mostly as a curiosity. i'm a big fan of Phat Kat's gruff voice and hard core delivery and cadence but this EP just doesn't do much for me. it is pretty much a demo tape pressed up on wax - you can tell Phat Kat has yet to develop his signature sound, and his voice lacks the majority needed to sell his lyrics which he would master when Jay Dee replaced Sure-Badz-X in 1st Down. The production is the main draw back here, very little has been done with the samples and the sample sources are never very interesting and a far cry from what we call the classic hip hop sound of the D from the mid '90s to now (which of course Jay Dee had A LOT to do with). once JD took the place as the producer of 1st Down the potential for a classic album was immediatly there!

Interesting to hear, always great to listen to early tracks by now legendary MC's. Sounds like phat kat definitely refined his rap style a few years after and was suited best to that classic mid-late 90's dilla production. Loving the breakdown parts of money hungry and black man's theme, wouldn't mind this record in the collection if it ever turned up.
