"BONITA APPLEBUM": U.K. 12" MIX
--The UK 12" Mix is a remixed culmination of Parts 1 and 2 of "Bonita Applebum". It is known also on UK pressings as the "12" Why? Mix"
The first part is a genuine, sweetened extended remix of Part 1 (the original album version) while Part 2 (known as the Hootie Mix on other releases) was remixed itself with another set of music.
"BONITA APPLEBUM": U.K. RADIO EDIT (a.k.a. THE WHY? MIX)
--Known in the UK as the "Why? Mix", the UK Radio Edit of "Bonita Applebum" is, in fact,
Part 1 remixed with the 1982 New Wave/Reggae-styled underground Dance fusion classic
"Why?" by Carly Simon and Chic.
"BONITA APPLEBUM": REMIX (a.k.a. HOOTIE MIX)
Printed on this particular release as "Remix", this cut was actually the
"Hootie Mix" of "Bonita Applebum" (as found on release 1368-1-JD).
The Hootie Mix was not a remix at all, but rather indeed, the sequel (or the Part 2) to the original version
with all new lyrics and completely different background music.
Furthermore, the Hootie Mix was one of the first Hip-Hop records to sample The Isley Brothers' "Between The Sheets"
and also the first hit Hip-Hop seguel -- ultimately setting the standards for what was called a "remix" in the music industry.
Most Hip-Hop and R&B sequel or answer records after "Bonita Applebum" were referred to as a "remix"
when, in fact, they were not at all.
