Probably the least necessary A Tribe Called Quest single, "Luck Of Lucien" was released in this remixed state to promote the weird Frankenstein monster called "Revised Quest For the Seasoned Traveler", a compilation of remixes and alternate versions released for the non-U.S. markets. The A side mixes aren't terrible, but they gut the vibe of "Lucien" and turn it into a slightly sped/pitched-up hip house track. Not awful, but hugely forgettable. The B-side remixes, however, are truly bad. Cheesy and awkward, they represent a really a misplaced attempt to...uhhh...honestly, I don't really know what the intent was here. It's a sort of glossy, gross, soulless sound that makes me think of early 1990s fast food commercials. The "Hip Hop Mix" only gets tolerable in its final twenty seconds or so. Why didn't they make the entire mix more like this last section? The "Vixen Dub" is appalling. Just a cheesy groove with chopped-up vocals bits scattered over it like sprinkles on a cupcake. Seemingly random, with little or no attention to how it syncs with the underlying rhythm. Basically, I never need to listen to any of these four mixes again.
