Music created for Palais des Beaux Arts in Lille, France

Fine arts museums are a source of inspiration for artists. They provide the key ingredients to fuel for their imagination, combining tradition and avant-garde.
The Palais des Beaux-Arts has one of the finest and most amazing collections in France after the Louvre. With OPEN MUSEUM, creators can deploy their invention and imagination inside.

OPEN MUSEUM is a scheme giving carte blanche each spring to the inventions of major creators, the kind you don’t normally expect to see in a museum, famed for their work and crossover artistic slant : film directors, actors, writers, fashion designers, musicians and great chefs. With a passion for art, whether classic or contemporary, they put forward their vision of the museum, taking it by storm in their own special way. Original soundtracks, clever combos, offbeat outlooks : anything goes, giving visitors to the museum to discover and rediscover the inspirational force of the permanent collections with a new twist.

The first guests are the members of the french group AIR : Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin.
As representatives of the French touch electronic music movement, the group air have forged an international reputation in the course of their 15-year career.
They have also branched out into poetry, art, photography, video and film. Director Sofia Coppola entrusted them with the soundtrack of Virgin suicides, as a prelude to other collaborations (Lost in translation and Marie-Antoinette). They have also remixed Depeche mode, Neneh Cherry, mGmt and David Bowie. their discography is one to be proud of. they have sold over 5 million albums. They have performed at the biggest venues and festivals worldwide, including in the states and Japan, breaking new ground for French artists. Today, AIR is no longer a French curiosity but an international phenomenon.

For the Palais des Beaux-Arts, the group will be composing original music for the museum and its collections. Made-to-measure music to cast a fresh light on the guided tour, prompting an original view of the masterpieces.

Their performance will also associate contemporary artists such as : Linda Bujoli, Mathias Kiss, Xavier Veilhan and Yi Zhou.

On this record, Air go full Brian Eno/Terry Riley. Gorgeous, lush, and extremely ambient.
