A Krautrock legend, famous for their debut album VAMPIRE STATE BUILDING recorded at Wümme (best-known as the home of Faust) one of those rare gems that fused a variety of patent Kraut styles into something original and new. You'll hear in that LP shades of the UK fusion and Canterbury scene, and some Zappa/Mothers-isms too, fused with Can and Faust, and elements of Eiliff, Gila and Frumpy. After that they changed somewhat adopting German lyrics and a more offbeat satirical twist sometimes hinting at the likes of Checkpoint Charlie, Floh De Cologne or Franz K. The very German underground underbelly of Krautrock, at the cutting edge of new invention, is what's presented on this live recording MADE IN GERMANIA which explores pop culture from an angle that even I don't fully understand, yet the creativity of the music is so fresh and charged that who cares what they're singing about when it sounds this good? After this Alcatraz made another album in the "polit-rock" vein ENERGIE PROGRAMM IN ROCK and then moved into instrumental jazz-fusion realms with LIVE "TROCKENEIS ZUM FRÜHSTÜCK" - both albums screaming for reissue if you ask me. Alcatraz have kept going in some form ever since, and this Cosmic Egg release coincides with their 44th anniversary!
