I ripped these to my Mac, which is like a 2010 model, with no problem. I may guess that the longer length CDs could be a problem on an old CD player, but this would not be a problem for everybody. If it is you could always rip it to the computer and make shorter length CDs for that particular player. I suppose you could take off the dub/instrumental mixes or something too? This set was long overdue, glad B&J got it done! WB probably wouldn’t have been done it! Sounds great, a must have for any Alphaville fan!

Good remastering from the original sources : that is the essential thing. One of the best b-side to rediscover is "The Nelson highrise (sector one,the elevator)". It would be an excellent "new beat" track to be found by a DJ (with the perfect tempo and originality on a dancefloor) if ... it would exist as instrumental without the voice. Hoping to find it as pure instrumental one day.

Not the first time So80s have done this. CDs longer than 80 minutes. AVOID!

A long overdue compilation, so80s Presents Alphaville collects the "12-inch" mixes and the B-sides of the singles Alphaville recorded for their first three albums (that is, all the singles they recorded in the 80s. Hey, "so eighties!"). This CD is perfect for everyone who was grossly disappointed that The Singles Collection was, in fact, a poor excuse for a singles collection. Disc one features the "extended" or "special" mixes of the singles for the twelve-inch records. Disc two features the b-sides for those singles, plus a couple bonuses, and disc two is pretty much the reason to buy this compilation. This is definitely the highest sound quality source for the b-sides from Seeds to Concrete Soundtraxx for Imaginary Films. I was especially happy to listen to Vingt Mille Lieues Sous les Mers on this CD, since I spent years listening to that song on a hissy, crackly copy of the Sensations 12-inch.

Even better are the notes, written by Marian Gold, describing each single and b-side to go with it (fun fact: he really doesn't like Universal Daddy).

The actual A-side singles are not present on this compilation. Nor are the "Dub" mixes of Sensations and Red Rose, even though those also come from the 12-inch versions of those singles. Also, nothing the band recorded post-80s is included, but Alphaville never really released a B-sde after The Breathtaking Blue, and the singles from The Breathtaking Blue onward have all had CD releases, so there isn't quite the same urgency to release those tracks as there was to release the ones on this compilation. What's included on these discs are an appropriate and much appreciated collection. I imagine anyone who's a fan of the band will want to get a hold of this release, and for anyone who knows the band only through their studio albums, the B-sides will be a chance to hear a unique side of 80s-era Alphaville.

Colection of B-sides Alphaville singles. Oooh. Dreams come true. I waited 25 years and now all in one on CD in perfect quality. Good work Blank and Jones. Thank you.
