This has absolutely nothing to do with soul music and is one of those 'blips' on the Northern Soul scene whereupon a record that has the right beat and is obscure enough gets spun, however it was a massively popular instrumental in its day when originally played at the legendary Twisted Wheel club in Manchester and has subsequently become a big oldie.
There seems to be a bit of a mystery as to the correct title. It would appear that on some pressings the labels were reversed, so what has been know for years as 'The Kid' is in fact called 'Holiday'.
