In regards to the gate fold set vs the 2 12"s were they suppose to sold together or be sold separately (which is how I got them)?
Do people just put the remix 12" into the original gatefold sleeve and claim it as a set?

Anyway Sire had no idea what was to follow but I suppose thats what you get when you think you can tame a wild animal.

I love my gatefold vinyl copy of this EP, probably one of my favourite album covers.
Warp and The Designer's Republic made beautiful album covers back then.

I used to know Dan Parkes quite well (the guy who did the cover art for this). He's a funny guy. He did the cover for the Ventolyn EP aswell. Just showing off :)

Gotta leave a huge recommendation for the 'On (28 Mix)' here. It is clearly the best track of the single despite being completely beatless, and captures an ambiance which is far removed from conventional chillout themes. Sounding more like a dirge being played in an immense Martian cathedral. It definitely fits in very well with the theory mentioned below that it may be the unofficial 28th track from 'S.A.W. Volume II'.

The Reload and µ-Ziq mixes didn't really move me back when I grabbed the 'On' singles, and I still find them a bit underwhelming today to be honest. The 'D-Scape' mix is another example of Richard D. James inventiveness with it's odd use of percussive sounds which builds into an epic and driving piece of music. Definitely one for Aphex's own mixes.

This release is of a special historic value: from here braindance severs with ambient techno with no return. "On" really shows a new direction, one of the best from Aphex. "73-yips" is somewhat unique borrowing much from acid. Dark-atmosphered loopy "D-scape", with straightforward kick-only beat, turns into awesome "Xepha", a soundtrack to nightmare. Totally outstanding by the time!

Bought this EP for the great "On" track.
Its smooth and dreamy.
73-Yips is alot faster and harder.more acid/techno-ish.
D-scape takes a while before it actually begins...and it doesnt really get to a highest point, but its a very OK track.
Xepha is (to me) D-scape part 2..it uses quite the same ambient lines with a beat.
Overall a nice release, worth a 4/5.

This EP features some brilliant drum work and melody to create an absolutely beautiful, serene song. One of my favorite RDJ releases.

D-Scape is personally my 'desert island track'. It has everything you could want in an experience of "visionary" audio. Haunting beauty. Weaving melody and endless layers & depth. Thunderous bass (that always catches you off guard). This track was the one that did it for me, opened my mind to the idea that electronic music could evoke the same kind of emotion as music produced by conventional / classical means. It leaves you wanting more, which is possibly the greatest quality of all.
