The band ‘Apoptygma Berzerk’ has been formed in 1991 by Stephan Groth. Stephan also produced tracks under some aliases and he is (and was) very active in a lot of different groups, but ‘Apoptygma Berzerk’ is the one most well known. In 1993 the first ‘Apoptygma Berzerk’ album, ‘Soli Deo Gloria’ was released. Three years later their album ‘7’ came out and this one was followed up in 2000 by the album ‘Welcome To Earth’, which was released on the Norwegian label ‘Tantra Productions’. One of the songs of this album was the synth-pop track called ‘Kathy’s Song (Come Lie Next To Me)’.
Stephan Groth wrote and produced the track. Furthermore, he also took care of the whole programming and he performed the vocals in the track as well. The female chorus vocals in ‘Kathy’s Song’ (which are slightly changed due to a vocoder) are done by Kathy Macintosh. But … this is not a human artist, but a fake name for Stephan's Macintosh computer which generated the vocals for the track.

The single release of ‘Kathy’s Song (Come Lie Next To Me)’ was on December 11, 2000. The remix versions of the track became pretty popular in the dance scene. The Green Court’s version is a harder more danceable version, while Ferry Corsten’s remix has a real uplifting trance feeling in it. Ferry did not use all vocals in his remixes, but he has only used a few lines. Other remixes of the track which are pretty well known are the remixes done by Mellow-D vs. Pulsedriver and the Mat Silver vs. Tony Burt remix.

The artwork for the cover of the vinyl and the CD was done by Union Design. It shows a Commodore 64 computer, which has an image of a girl (perhaps ‘Kathy’?) on the monitor.
