Through Planetary Folklore, Kirk De Georgio definitely asserts his Jazz ambitions, beyond the weak citations of too many "jazzy" electronic music records. Even if DeGeorgio recognizes that he resorted to a unique sequencer, the Neutron, to reproduce the modal variations characterizing his musical inspirations - Pharaoh Sanders, Max Roach, early 70's Herbie Hancock, Yusef Lateef -, his approach is exceptionally upright. This is brilliant music - complex drum patterns (7/8), subtle harmonic arrangements, and even arty titles (Rothko...) - that never forgets to be either beautiful and touching (Amalia) or tight and uncompromising (Soul Soul Soul). A beacon for electronic jazz.
