A respectable performance from the accuracy-obsessed Clevelanders at the peak of their Szell era. Recorded very well, if a tad bright (which most of their mid-to-late 60's recordings seem to suffer from. Oh well, that is what tone controls are for!).
What makes this recording of the Bartok stand out (in addition to having the Janacek Sinfonietta included, as a "bonus"), is the rare treat of hearing the original ending - which Bartok revised after the premiere performance (and which is almost exclusively performed today). If there is another recording with this alternative ending, I am unaware of its existence.
