Agreed, totally absOrbing, yet Toby Marks still stamps his own sound, a fact that distinguished him beyond other myriad outfits trying to rise above sounding like the next Dr. LX Paterson. I heard tell of how Marks was threatened by pro-China agents whom turned up during live touring of Last Train to Lhasa. Whether true in the retelling, the album did have a heavy political slant to impart. Perhaps it being in the realm of "Third-World" sounds, it owes the genre enough to make these political statements in return for borrowing from the world ghetto, but whatever it's political motivations, the music is better in borrowing so.
Definately worth adding to an electonic collection, tho most can make do with the usual 2-disc version. The 3-disc version's hefty pricetag shows how "Limited" and popular this album was and is. So limited in fact that none of the folk whom I know whom bought the album on release, myself included, knew about a 3-disc version until my seeing it listed here on discogs.com. all these years later.

Fairly dated sounding but for Kincajou into white paint and 887 structure you get a mysterious FAX label sounding vibe that any ambient lover would appreciate. The ethno world vibe ones are slightly cheesy and the drum programming are flat as is the overall depth of the sound. But then it sounds very Orb of the period like orb live 93. So if you are expecting a eastern orb sounding album you will really like this allot. I like allot of planet dog / mammoth records more than this (feed your head comps especially / eat static) but this is good album. But you have to like the period it was made in.

Totally classic and unmissable ambient/downtempo long player. If you have a collection that includes The Orb, Global Communication and Irresistible Force CDs you really mustn't be without this one. Beautifully constructed, absorbing, chilled and mesmerising. The 36 minute version of Kincajou is a trip!
