Orlando Voorn probably had little idea of the magnitude of his Baruka project's "Play It Loud" when it was first released in the early 90s. Now the well-respected Monoïd label has released the track once again, this time with a wide array of remixes and updates. Not surprisingly, the original still stands head and shoulders above the pack, with an ever-changing, ever-twisted set of synth lines, and a sick bassline to underpin it all. Though the reworks are of consistent quality, one of the disappointments comes from the otherwise effective Sam Session, who gets a bit lazy and unfortunately even-handed in his version. It's worth the original and the alternative take alone. Play it LOUD.
