EMI seem unable to do any job properly. Although this is a fantastic compilation it seems to make no sense at all. Rather than compile all of the Be-Bop Deluxe albums EMI have chosen to omit the live album "Live! In The Air Age" thus making it a studio collection rather than a complete collection.
OK, so they fill up the spare capacity with assorted out-takes and B-sides making most of the 1990 editions redundant. They even got round to including "Japan" which was bewilderingly omitted the last time round (along with "Face in the Rain": see my other comment below).
Furthermore, Bill Nelson has generously compiled a bonus disc whose only poor track is the Flashman Remix of Heavenly Homes, but as there may be people out there who like this kind of work who am I to complain?
Well...the bulk of the bonus disc is made up of out-takes from (wait for it...) the live album "Live! In The Air Age". Surely EMI could have done better than this? My copy has a spare holder for a sixth disc (it is a "big box" with flip-out double-disc holders in the jewel trays).
COME ON, EMI! Knock up a sixth disc of the live album and charge a quid or two more. I agree that the compilation is inexpensive but this is so nearly the perfect product and you've blown it. As usual.

Further to the review by rexjwb, the bulk of the bonus tracks have been organised in accordance with the 1990 remastered albums where the track selections were perplexing at best. Keen eyed fans would have noticed that "Speed of the Wind", another "Drastic Plastic" era song, was featured on both "Futurama" and "Sunburst Finish" and yet "Face In The Rain", a one minute idea towards the end of "The Best and The Rest of Be-Bop Deluxe", still hasn't appeared on CD to the best of my knowledge. "Blimps", according to the booklet with "The Practice of Everyday Life", was the play-on music for the "Modern Music" tour and finally, "Shine" was a "Modern Music" period B-side.

PS The tracks 2-13 to 2-15, 3-16 to 3-19 and 4-12 to 4-14 were originally issued on the second disc of "The Best and The Rest of Be-Bop Deluxe".

A great collection but some very odd bonus track placement!

2-2: "Maid in Heaven (live)" is an album track from Live in the Air Age, rather than a contemporary b-side or outtake from Futurama.
2-15: "Blue as a Jewel" was a Drastic Plastic-era b-side, yet ends up with the Sunburst Finish bonus tracks.
4-14: "Lights" was a Futurama-era b-side, yet gets plunked down in the Drastic Plastic bonus section.

Of the remaining non-single bonus tracks, "Speed Of The Wind," "Quest For The Harvest Of The Stars," and "Autosexual" were all recorded during the Drastic Plastic sessions (to the best of my knowledge) and originally appeared on the posthumous compilation album, The Best of and the Rest of Be Bop Deluxe. So they really should be grouped with the other Drastic Plastic outtakes, "Blimps" and "Lovers Are Mortal."

Inexplicably, the excellent "Face in the Rain," which also appeared on The Best of and the Rest of Be Bop Deluxe, is nowhere to be found.
