I ordered this from Amazon AU, and expected to get the EU version, as that's what the stores here stock instead of the US ver., unless that is the only option.

Well, I got this version instead and I'm a bit disappointed. It's noticeably bright and loud, and just a little uncomfortable to listen to.

It's certainly not the worst pressing I've heard, but it's rather disappointing that such a fantastic album has been pressed so questionably. The edges of both of the records on my copy were very rough and had bits of vinyl chipping off, and the first disc is pretty audibly warped. Both discs are more dirty than they should ever be - considering I bought this brand new - but there really isn't much surface noise to speak of other than the occasional pop or click. I can live with that, but I know plenty of people who would find this unacceptable for such a recent pressing.

The presentation is far more iffy, in my opinion. The artwork is very clearly JPEG'd, which I was willing to forgive since it was done digitally back in 2002, but they really couldn't have sourced a better version of the artwork? Did they lose the master images or something? The labeling not having what tracks are on each side/disc is annoying, but it's manageable since it's all on the back of the sleeve anyways. The gatefold is kind of wonky and won't stand up on its own even with both discs removed. This can be a problem with some gatefolds in my experience, so I won't knock it for being that way. Still, it's kind of annoying to me personally since I like propping up the sleeve while listening to the record, it adds to the experience to me.

Overall, I've heard good things and bad things about this pressing. My copy appears to be one of the duds, but you might luck out with yours if I'm inclined to be optimistic. If you're willing to take the risk, the mastering sounds pretty clean to my ears and it sounded great on my pretty above-average setup. I suppose if you get a bad copy, you can always look into exchanging it possibly, but that's not always something you can do. Either way, at the end of the day (get it?) it's a far better alternative for us who can't or aren't willing to shell out an absurd amount of money for the MFSL pressing.

Sounds great besides the loud sibilance and issues jumping/skipping on a couple tracks. Very disappointed in anything short of a functional quiet pressing.

No channel issues or dishing with my copy. Clean mastering job as well... And it wasn't even 200 bucks! Very happy.

The same, this press has channel issues on side a first two tracks and some on track three.. which is very dissapointed becouse i expected a high quality pressing. Rest of sides plays great . The mastering is great aand the package too. It is a shame that this editions has issues like this. I think it is a pressing plant issue. Some of Sonic Youth repress has the same channel problems.

Have both MOFI (black vinyl) and this new reissue mastered by Golden. It is very good, and if you don't have it and like the album, get it. It is great that It has been reissued and is affordable. If this is a "desert island disc" for you, defiantly save up and by the MOFI. There is a clear distinction between the two that is other worldly. If some one says other, they just have not heard the MOFI release period.
