All I can say, as the random, slightly out of place, teenager wearing, who knows why, jumper and dark trousers in authentic poncho land in a few blink and miss cameos in between the heavenly looking donkeys, farmers and kids in the song video (my 15 seconds of fame) is - go for all the mixes. All of them, nearly. Wrap yourself up in them and don't stop looking. There are probably always more!

I spent a year once limiting myself to the beautiful British house purity of the original 7" version, except in the clubs & raves where you couldn't choose of course.
These days it's about the many mixes.

Seek mixes of 'The Sun Rising' where ye might find them (original mixes of the time itself) and then look further ye. They just keep coming. There must be 20 to 30 of them, or more, and they're all excellent, bar the drum and bass one to my ears - as it's just not house, obviously. Sorry, it's a house thing.

As for the video, if anyone has ever noticed it, I don't think I even realised I was being filmed. It's a bit bizarre they kept in the guy who'd ditched his blazer and tie one lunchtime and threw on a jumper over his school uniform shirt. However I'd been there for the preparation days before. I met all the gorgeous locals who appear in one of the most beautiful music videos to a most beautiful house song of the most incredible era. What a time - simply no words for it. I once knew Steve and Jon and perhaps I credit myself a little with getting them more into club culture, and the newly developing field culture, from their indie days, experiencing Shoom, Spectrum, Phuture, the wandering Nicky Holloway, Hacienda, that club in Streatham, the one in Essex etc etc.

Mix hunting is where you'll find an admittedly pretty slim echo, as if the memory of a sound from a conch, of the most indescribable frequency of a time and place of love and joy and immense, Godly genius, late 80s to very early 90s UK. Heavily indebted to Chicago, New York and Detroit but a world unto itself. Thanks Beloved for the times in the place.

The was a rave / Bass & Bleep Detroit style version of this I heard back in the day, been searching forever, can anyone point in in the right direction ?

One of the best electronic music tracks ever produced. Simple and hypnotic. For a remix, it has to be Tony Humphries. Enjoy.

WEA and The Beloved ran into a bit of trouble over the vocal sample on this track (the one that appears just after the title in the chorus). It actually came from "A Feather On The Breath Of God", an album of 12th-century plainsong released by the tiny independent label Hyperion, who not unnaturally were rather miffed that they hadn't been asked! In the end they settled out of court for a modest sum. The same sample turned up again the following year in Orbital's "Belfast", but this time it was properly credited, with Hyperion getting their rightful cut.
