Although I don't pay much attention to Ostgut Ton and their artist roster (in fact, if it had not been for "Temporary suspension" I would have found out about this label with a two year delay), "Compression session" is not to be underestimated.
Hot around the globe pleasing dance floors weekend in weekend out, Ben Klock sets the hands on the watch straight and gives it to you on a nickle plated platter. OK now, enough of the hip hop metaphors, the A side provides a juicy, joyous melodic work out which is an ideal tune to accompany the sunrise. Since that won't happen inside a club, you'll just have to nod your head along and tap your feet to it next to a large sound system and get completely absorbed by the swift beats and the hypnotic, dreamy passages. Beautiful.
Static Test has some shuffled static sounds and a delayed, light hearted melody in the background entering a minute and some change deep. The pace is mid tempo techno, but compared to the previous number the end result is way too pale and disengaging.
Back on track with the last one, with the bubbly, dubby bass line and the thumping drum rolls. OK, nothing overly cerebral, but it's a safe crowd pleaser along with the A side tune. Very subtle and minimal in progression, Compression Session 2 is another spacey voyage, albeit not ornamented with a sequence as catchy as the first part.
Overall, worth your attention mainly for the Compression Session 1 track, which I've witnessed do great things inside a club more than once. Its counterpart isn't as instantly likeable, although the irresistible groove will keep heads giving nods of approval. Do check!
