Apparently, this one is a live recording! If really so, the only thing I can say is that I'm hella sorry I wasn't there. Ben Long goes all out, sticking both his arms into the fire. Amazing references to the DJ culture, abbundant scratches, cut-ups and hip hop samples (Ice Cube, Rakim, Public Enemy), breaks, eruptions of techno fury - it is all here! The whole mix is right in your face, with dare-do top of the line mixing skill and a great track selection, mainly focused on harder techno, explicitly designed for the dance floors. If this one doesn't move you, few things will. I have had the chance to get a glimpse of Ben Long live, here in Zagreb, and just as he didn't let down that time, he is on the level with "Ekspozicija 06". Hard, funky, moving at a fast pace, with superb djing, and tons of filter effects and tricks, Ben Long delivers one for your house party, if you live alone on the top of an abandoned hill. Highlights for me include the always welcome Learning How To Do It by Valentino Kanzyani, and the part at around the forty fourth minute when he drops The Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams over a rapid techno beat. Cliche? Formulaic? May just be, but trust me, by the time you get to that point, you will do just about anything but hold a grudge against mr. Long. Oh yeah, and before I forget, the ending is fabulous, one of the best ways to close a DJ set I have ever heard: he lets Marco Bailey's ecstatic dance floor bomb Elektronic Confusion rip ish up as the sample from The Break Boys track My House Is Your House gets layed over it. Amazing!
This whole mix gets my warmest recommendation. For those who like proper hard techno, you really need to hear this. And if you like what you've heard, then I'd suggest checking out Dave Clarke's World Service 2, the Space DJz double pack mixed compilation and Dave The Drummer's Hydraulix mix sessions - a furious label overview.

EDIT: may 4th, checked and corrected some grammar/spelling errors... Argh, can't I ever get it right the first time?
