This is from Ben Watt himself. He has an excellent discography up on his homepage with a more extensive review of this track and all he's ever done, actually. Good read.

"The vocal clips came from two hip-hop sources - 'Politix' by The Lone Catalysts (hence the title), and 'Set it Off' by Organized Noize, which I later had to have re-sung because of copyright issues. I played or programmed the rest. After the early reaction, I made fifty white labels to give to friends. A few weeks later I got a call from New York. Someone had seen a record with 'Watts' stamped on the label in the famous old downtown record shop, Dance Tracks. It was my track. My own white label had be bootlegged. Two thousand copies were in circulation. Paul Farris at Uptown Records in Soho said he had sold out of his order already. I contacted the distributor, struck a deal, and regained control of the track. It ended up becoming the first single on Buzzin' Fly."

Spent 10 years looking for this track when I heard it briefly on a pirate. Managed to locate the full length track and listen and it still sounds fresh today like it did back in 2003. Top track that brings back some wicked memories, the 90s organ sound and the subtle atmospherics seem to flow so well with the vocals as well. Deep house like this is the proper shabang and Ben Watt shows off what style he has in this track to full effect. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves this sound.

The sort of record that, like fine wines and mature cheeses, needs time to grow and fully ripen to be totally appreciated. Gastro analogies aside, Watt has spent his time outside of EBTG to good use creating a sublime deep and hypnotic offering that’s already making the right noises and is being mentioned in dispatches by numerous A&R men. Simplicity is a rare commodity these days but the spoken/sung male lead does exactly that over a timeless backdrop that oozes with sophistication and soul-kissed beats.

Does Deep House get any slicker, sexier or funkier than this? I don't think so! This is just an incredible track in every which way. The vocals remain fresh no matter how many times you hear or spin it, the arrangements are stunning and the whole piece just comes together as truly beautiful music. This has be one of my all time favourites. Ben Watt is a living legend.
