Benjamin Wild was an integral part of the micro-house movement, and his debut, WITH COMPLIMENTS, emphasizes the house part of that equation. The brightness of "F(M).com" starts it off right away with its blend of thick bassline and perky synths. Meanwhile, "Forsch" thuds deeper and more melodic, and "Metamorphose" and "Anschlusstreffer" bring in some dub techno. Some darker guitar strums help color the beats of "Zerstoiber," while "Christmas 2000" has a cool, shimmering beauty. But for a funkier mood, the bass of "2001_b" serves that purpose well, before "Dubfilm" goes on a little meander with the echoing spaciousness. The smoothness of "Mix Für Rechenzentrum," as well, shows off his knack with micro-house percussive elements, as "Save Your Song" retains the dub techno elements. The closer "Layers" attempts some melodic funk, but it's not a strong an effort. But the rest of the album is quite solid, and that's a definite compliment.
