Here's an album that has absolutely nothing going for it...

What is it that makes some albums sell a gazillion copies and others being used as drink coasters?

Reasons for success are either expectations by the public based on previous work or based on a well working media hype machine or a straight up quality album.

Benzino is best known for abusing the Source magazine to promote his albums and starting a beef with Eminem to promote his albums. Oh yeah, and he also used the Source to promote his beef with Eminem. Anyone who knows enough about the beef and the man's actions while working at the Source thinks of him as the biggest jackass in hiphop. For this reason he has virtually no fanbase or hype.

But due to his hot production team the Hangmen 3, his guests and his very modest skills as a rapper all of his albums sounded alright. Here is where it stops. No Scarface, Lil' Jon, Freddie Foxxx, 2pac, Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Raekwon, Wyclef, Prodigy, Daz, Kurupt, Lil' Kim or any other big name on here. The only recognizeable name on here is Ja Rule and in 2007 that's a problem. The reason none of his former guests showed up is obvious; Zino got fired from the Source. No more favors for favors, eh?

Also the beats are uncharacteristically bad. Yeah, the list of producers is a little more promising than that of the guest rappers; Hangmen 3, Ty Fyffe, Sctott Stortch and Stevie J. But it seems that Ray coerced these people, in a desperate attempt to sound hip, to imitate Mannie Fresh beats... poorly. Also Benzo introduces a lot of new rappers who sound like terrible imitators of popular derrrty south rappers. I'd actually prefer Soulja Boy or dem Franchise Boys to this. The genre and overall quality would be exactly the same but at least these two acts wouldn't sound like your and my (grand)father trying to get KRUNK! with a few of the retards on the block.

Honestly, I don't hate derrrty South hiphop but anyone looking for proof that hiphop is in fact dead and that the south killed it could use this as exhibit A (Nobody remembers that Ray is from Boston anyway...)

Usually albums like these have at least one or two songs worth hearing but "the Antidote" is absolutely worthless. Avoid this at all costs. Even if you like Scott Stortch, Ja Rule or Ray himself based on his prior albums you'd still have no reason to even illegaly download this shit.
