My absolute favourite Black Flag album. Side 2 is just brilliant.

If you love this era of Black Flag I highly recommend that you 'SEEK' live bootlegs of the 1986 'In My Head Tour' which put these songs to justice. It's well known that the band was always under financial strain and were constantly touring thus the album's don't always show Black Flag's true strength as an INTENSE live band.

What you'll find is a lead guitarist who plays in my opinion the most mind bending, unpredictable, dissonant, free jazz laden (call it what you will), leads that sound like nothing else! With a singer that has an intense spine shivering spiel... Giving you the real 'In My Head' experience of a dark, paranoid, f**ked up world the album tries to portray.

Don't listen to anyone who says this album is "crap" or their "worst" or whatever, because anyone who says these things definitely has cloth ears and no taste! To me "In My Head" is Black Flag's heavy metal album! It's loaded with kicking riffs, Greg Ginn is like a Hardcore Tony Iommi on this LP! "In My Head" is one of the pivotal albums in American Hardcore history! And don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

in my head shows a band, that has made a step forward in their development.
while damaged is raw hardcore us westcoast punk, in my head is a mature production, where the band takes the listener in an insane world, which is reflected in the lyrics, and the longer destorted songs.
i can't say which record is the better one - it depends on the state of mind of the listener, but i think, that both of them can be recommended!

This first time i heard this album, was after a friend of mine gave me his copy, i was at my friend's house and noticed this album poking out the back of his vinyl collection "woah, is that a Black Flag album on vinyl?" i said, he looked at me, grabbed the album "here, take it, its one of the worst records i have ever heard". I took it home thinking that his critique was probably a bit over dramatic, how could any Black Flag album be really that bad (at this point i had only heard up to My War), i was wrong, and quickly passed it along to another friend. I'm not a fan of Family Man, mainly because of it's inconsistency, less the spoken word aspect, but it's still better than this one. In My Head is consistently crap. I say that with complete respect for what a great band Black Flag was, but this album should have never been, because of this i have avoided their supposed last release "I can see you" like the plague. If B.F. can get any worse than this, it's not worth it to find out. What does In My Head sound like, it sounds like crap, end of story.
