Black Elektronika is an amazing album with complicated tempo fluctuations peppered throughout the intricate track listings. I really enjoyed the stutter steps between the breaks and instrumentation especially with the kick-off track at the beginning of the album. The first track “Silema” definitely sets the tone for the rest of the album with melodic samples and synthesized chord progressions. It almost has a video game 8-bit feel to the composition that I really found to be innovative in regards to the other songs. The hard-hitting percussion of the music uses side chain compression that gives it that pumping feeling without taking too much out of the actually beat itself. The low end really complimented the mid range frequencies as well throughout the album with smooth sounding Rhodes piano keys accompanied with lush and dirty bass sounds - This made for a really intrinsic contrast. One of the best songs on the album is “Techno Drug” and the title says it all with so many complex overheads with a grimy synth automated throughout the song. There were a lot of third- world instruments that contributed to the success of this album that were not so common in the electronic realm - this added depth and versatility to the mixes that was unprecedented for this artist. I think the conclusion of this album is so many different styles of music all put into a hybrid form of instrumentation that Black Elektronika utilizes with perfection such as deep house, smooth house, techno and many other art forms. For a musician, this is a very tough task to do and Black Elektronika does it with ease due to his professional understanding and utilization of sound.
