I was really looking forward to this one. Dumb Flesh was a real shot in the arm, and the Confuso EP and D5 single carried some momentum. So what's the matter? I can't quite put my finger on it but I think it might be lack of suprise and lack of variation. Things open brightly with an off-kilter music box meets organ (real organs) grinder into the big opener with trademarked choppy vox samples, fearsome rhythms and layered distortion. After that there seems to be a settling back and coasting, ideas are stretched and a needed 'brooding lurker' fails to appear. Tracks pass like roadsigns to a destination I commute semi-regularly. It all sounds a bit anticlimactic, which is not to say anything is poor, I just expected to be terrified by the big snarly snout, instead I'm patting this mutt on the head.
