Before Seger hit the big time in the 70s with his Silver Bullet Band he made a bunch of great records back in the mid - late 60s. Mostly big regional hits in his home turf of Detroit. All his greatest recordings are collected on this album including the beautiful mod-stomper Heavy Music (like Martha and the Vandellas crossed with the MC5), the Gloria rewrite East Side Story and the anti-war song 2+2=
Don't let the later bearded Seger and his Silver Bullet buddies prejudice you against this vital collection of fantastically urgent US garage punk and RnB. Essential listening for any fan of Nuggets or Pebbles.
Heavy Music would have been a big hit for Seger in 1967 but the distribution company went bust and the record never got the attention it so richly deserved. Otherwise it would be a 'golden oldie' by now!!
