After a 10+ year absence, Bola finally returns to the scene with D.E.G., continuing his tradition of phonetic puns. Indeed, this album harkens all the way back to SOUP, having lost many of the hip-hop elements that marked some of his later work. The piano line that anchors “Fhorth” finds itself accompanied by long strings and what sounds like Tuvan throat-singing before it surges forth and twinkles away in your headspace. The beat comes in with “Herzzatzz,” crashing against the lighter and slightly angular melodic line, again reminiscent of the heyday of IDM. Bola became rightly known for his use of melancholy melody, but on “Avantual,” it initially takes a jazzy turn before sparking into a more abstract direction. “Evensong” is even more surprising, bringing in female vocals, to soar above the fray and add a subtle heartbreak. But the electro energy of “Landor 50x2” immediately switches the mood, even though it ends on a much quieter note. The “Peloman Vapor” trilogy, of course, suggests the “Forcasa” trilogy from SOUP, but develops in a different manner, starting with a subtle groove in the first part, shifting into a 6/8 time signature in the second, and ending with the spacious ambience and melancholy piano of the concluding section. Male vocals, mostly sung and with a short spoken-word section, take the center on “Kappafects,” bringing to mind his classic track “Pae Paoe,” though with more elegant backing. And, finally, “Maghellen” brings in, once again, a piano to add a note of grace to the bucolic, folksy guitar. I sure hope we don’t have to wait another ten years for the next album.

The intro track is magnificent. Then returns... where it ended with Soup from 1998... which is not bad, because it's very good album. Thank you for comeback, Bola! Musically very good album, invention is rather low.

One thing that bother me with this very good album... it's typical child of loudness war mastering and that is shame with electronic music of this high quality. Almost every song is trapped in noise spasm like canned sardines, music can't breath as freely as it deserves, color of individual sound is suppressed, bass doesn't have contures and mostly consists of plain hum, highs can be scratchy at times. I know, it's electronics, not jazz. But little bit of dynamic space for sound to breath would be marvelous here, electronical sounds can be so diverse and beautiful.

Great album from Mr. Fitton, I'm happy he's back. Vinyl has beautiful presentation and great, clean sound. No complaints, really glad I sprung for this over the CD.

Loving it, esp. Landor 50X2 - nice and spikey! Also loving the new pun (although I had to look it up! (D.E.G. (Boiled Egg)) following on from Soup (Bowl of Soup), Fyuti (Bowl of yew tea), Gnayse (Bolognaise), Kroungrine (Crown Green Bowler)

Darrell Fitton returns to his Bola guise after a decade of silence, and what a return it is. I haven't even listened through the album yet I'm giddy as a fox in a henhouse - this is brilliant. Highly recommended.
