Probably is the slipmat. I have an original version that came with a mat, but soon after purchase I gave the mat to my girlfriend at the time. The record has been stored in the original inner for 20 years and is still glossy and perfect.

The vinyl reacted to the material used to make the turntable mat. You can see the damage in the runout grooves of side 2 in the sample photo here.

I've had 2 copies go bad. I was thinking it was some kind of reaction to the ink in the printed inner sleeve. Just got a NM third copy and I'm keeping it in a separate sleeve outside the jacket.

3 of 3 copies we've seen suffer from the same erosion

The vinyl version of this album was originally issued with a turntable slipmat inside. Unfortunately the materials used to make this slipmat reacted with the vinyl almost immediately. As a result, anyone who kept the slipmat inside the record for any length of time, had at least one side affected and possibly ruined the entire thing. If you are looking to buy a sealed copy at this point, just forget about it. If you still have a sealed copy, you should open it quickly and get the slipmat away from the rest of your albums ASAP. The record should have come with a warning, but I guess at the time no one knew.

My vinyl seems to suffer from some strange kind of erosion. never seen something like this before but one side is totaly unplayable. Are there more people around with the same story?
