Brandy Ifgray's debut LE MUTANT starts with the abstract jazz of "Bumblebee," with a organ piping in grandly, but things return to normality (in a way) with the bucolic "Thumb." The weirdness stomps in on "If I'm Lying," a dense, noisy track with some upward tinkles to counteract the heaviness beneath but swings the pendulum back to easy listening with "Belle." The album gleefully wavers between these two pivots, and it keeps the sounds fresh. "Python" manages to merge these two extremes together, while the title track makes the most of its spaciousness. "Slip Away," on the other hand, revels in its smooth sleaze, and "Köklax Beach" weaves a calm spell. A nice change from the everyday.
