Bryan Ferry, much as I admire him, is a die-hard creature of habit, releasing album after album of trite and polite "chanteur" pieces. -post Roxy Music and even then towards the "Avalon" finale.
The usual participants are here yet again, without having to mention them.
The same oh so funky bass lines we've heard since the 80's and the same restrained guitar riffs that total up to some kind of milk toast AOR radio program. Who's the target audience here? Where's Phil Manzanera to rip them a new one? - Sorry, Chris Spedding.
Mr. Ferry once stated that it was easy for him to sit around and write avant-garde tunes all day, but that it was difficult for him to compose a good pop tune. - Something like that...
Well, maybe, next time around, Mr. Ferry can treat us to some avant stuff instead of continuing to drown himself in tepid pop tunes. Will his longtime followers hold him culpable? I challenge...
Mr.Ferry should consider cultivating a return to his previous glory because I believe he still has it in him.
In the meantime, I'll rate this an "Avonbore".

Postscript- Re: the female backup singers
"Shakatak" ceased to be viable quite some time ago.

Postpostscript- Re: Album Cover Photo
Why paste a vintage photo of yourself, circa 1973, when you could've just as easily requested the art department of BMG to do a better job?
