2xCD compilation of previously released material in book-style double Digipak.

1-1 and 1-8 originally released as 12"/digital files in 2019: Claustro / State Forest
1-2 and 1-3 originally released as 10"/digital files in 2017: Subtemple
1-4 and 1-5 originally released as 12"/digital files in 2016: Young Death / Nightmarket
1-6, 1-7, and 1-9 originally released as 12"/CD/digital files in 2013: Rival Dealer
2-1, 2-2 and 2-3 originally released as 12"/digital files in 2012: Kindred
2-4 and 2-5 originally released as 12"/CD/digital files in 2012: Truant
2-6, 2-7 and 2-8 originally released as 12"/digital files in 2011: Street Halo

2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 2-6, 2-7 and 2-8 have also been previously compiled for the Japanese market as CD Street Halo / Kindred.

Misprint information: The Digipak tracklist gives 1-8 as Rival Dealer, and 1-9 as Claustro, however this is incorrect. The disc actually matches the web edition in having Claustro at 1-8, and Rival Dealer at 1-9. Therefore 'Misprint' tag should be added to this version if the release is reissued with the correct order on the Digipak.

Copies ordered from the label's Bandcamp page came with a 4x4-inch 'Burial' logo sticker.

At 4:49 minutes the track "Nightmarket" contains a sample from the Commodore 64 game "The Last Ninja 2 (The Mansion)" originally composed by Matt Gray

After being in the periphery for at least a decade, I finally experienced Burial for myself at perhaps the best entry point. In addition to getting Untrue (the Japanese CD edition), I also got this on the day of its release (or thereabouts). Call it an ultimate crash course.

I never approached the EPs one by one like others have. Thus everything is new to me from 2011's Street Halo to 2019s Claustro / State Forest. Furthermore, what was viewed as separate self-contained experiments, it can now be seen as quite cohesive, despite spanning years and showcasing diverse styles and approaches. For instance, what may seem like an out of place bit of ambience at the end of "Hiders" makes sense knowing that "Beachfires" exists. If the individual EPs are seen as self-contained worlds, this compilation makes it clear that it is a universe of Burial's own construction. And if there is ever a case to be made that this is the "long-awaited third LP/Untrue follow-up", it would be this.

Untrue is Burial's best work, and the rest of his work is utter shite. As this compilation perfectly demonstrates.

Overall a satisfying release, though cd 2 in my opinion is much better that the cd 1 that sounds more ambient and cold. My top track is " NYC" it has a very touching sad tune, but i also love "Kindred", "Street halo" and "Stolen dog" that sound also in a very emotional way.

Today was the first time I've caught up with burial since 2007 - I can't believe how much time has passed.

There are some great tracks on this compilation; I'm not feeling the 80s pop numbers but other than that it's all good.

It still sounds like Burial, but he's cleaned the production up a bit and experimented with a variety of different sounds. I guess he's not using soundforge anymore lol. It's interesting how has put several smaller tracks into one longer piece, to create a composition that tells a bit of a story.

Personal favourite: rival dealer.

Overall, a nice selection of music that doesn't quite match the ethereal beauty of his two original albums.

On my pressing, Claustro and Rival Dealer are inverted.

Outstanding record though.

well first i thougt...lame collection of previously released EPs. But after listening to this a few times i have to admit it´s a really clever way to release this. For a 3rd LP it would have been really hard to hit the unrealistic high expectations since untrue. But released in that way he got feedback for every single...and the collection works definitely as a third LP.

Shame it's not on vinyl. I would buy it even if I am sure it would be stretched to at least 3 discs

Listened all the way through this now, and it just underlines how much Will is a genius. A real treat for those of us who still only buy CDs (which increasingly feels like it's just me and three other people on the planet, especially when it comes to electronic music), there's half a dozen new tracks for us to enjoy. I love State Forest and Beachfires, almost a William Basinski feel to them.

Good sequencing too, strictly chronological wouldn't have had the same listening experience. Here's to your next decade, Will!
