Notes

This is the original 1977 New Hormones release with the following specifics:
• No “With HOWARD DEVOTO” under the band name on the front cover
• The label address is printed at the bottom of the back cover
• The record itself has a moulded plastic label
• Most of the information is stamped into the runout area (as opposed to inscribed)

The label reissued the record in 1979 with different characteristics than above and a slightly simpler label design (see entry here).

All recorded 'live' at Indigo Sound Studio in Manchester, England. Dec 28 1976 on 16 track.

My eternal youthidol just died....

The Spiral Scratch EP just rocketed me in january 1977 (together with my massive lifetimeheroes Wire) into punk and everything that evolved...

I've cancelled all appointments tomorrow and gonna listen to all 1977-1980 Buzzcocksreleases in chronological order.

I believe Pete found the harmony in his head... there is still love in this world...but shattered i am...

Imagine Pete sitting on the rightside of the throne of John Peel and Mark E. Smith on the left...no comment needed.

Rest in Noise, Pete.

I am on the look out for a sleeve only of this release. Must be for the original release and not the "With Howard Devoto" repress sleeve. Must be in at least vg+ condition or better. Hit me up if you have this for sale. Please don't make contact if you have a copy with the 7" as I don't need another copy of the record, just the sleeve.

There was also an edition of 300 with facsimile press release available via Domino.

"Limited to 300 copies globally, this special edition Spiral Scratch 7" vinyl features an insert including the EP’s original press release – housed in an original style paper sleeve and a PVC protective sleeve."

I'm selling my '77 original, so have been checking the run-out details against those above - it's identical to 'Variation 3' above in every respect, but there is an extra digit stamped on each side. In each case it's separated from the rest of the number by the etched text ("EAT THE BEAT", and "PULSE OUT" - which are 'upside down' relative to the stamped details), and on side A the number is 9, and side B it's 11.
I'd welcome any thoughts e.g. whether other '77 originals also have this extra number, separated from the rest of the identifying numbers.
