referencing Nag Nag Nag (1979 Original / 2002 RHKirk #4 Mix;), 12", Single, 12NOMU103
'Nag Nag Nag', along with 'Warm Leatherette' by The Normal is one of those early 'electrowave' (sorry, only buzzword I could think of) releases that seamlessly fused electronics with the do-it-yourself attitude of punk. It's raw, urgent, underproduced, and a lot of fun. In contrast, Kirk's remix turns it into a murky, trippy sonic stew. Worth getting for the original version alone.

When the history feels the need to repeat itself or remind new ones about its obscure corners, then record companies decide to cash in on it in so many different ways. Luckily, for Cabaret Voltaire nothing is left to its own devices, there is a purpose after all to bring this electronic classic close to a whole new generation of possible admirers who were not being born when the group already disbanded. Although 'Nag Nag Nag' could have been spared from all these remix-invasions, this attempt only justified them being so far ahead of the time - Akufen's Karaoke Mix is the most crystal example of CV's Glitch-electronica roots that they integrated throughout their early, provocative work. Tiga&Zintherius's mix is a bit off in here due to their vocal lines which goes more as if been a cover rather than the remixed original. Richard H Kirk still proves to be in great shape and puts two distant periods together - the original drum machine with his bombastic drum'n'bass background breathing fresh air into 'Nag Nag Nag' once again. Despite the fact remixes are usually a waste of time, some of them are true reminders of the originality some groups/individual artists really integrated into modern music for the last twenty years. In Cabaret Voltaire's case, their name is their legacy. Long live Cabaret Voltaire.
