I'm running short of superlatives for Cecil Taylor. This set, recorded in front of an enthusiastic Japanese audience, is stellar. One, long titanic improvisation spread out over 2 LPS. Everyone is in top form, especially Andrew Cyrille who is the perfect counterpoint to Taylor's piano. It's a cliche now that Taylor's playing is akin to 88 tuned drums, but this is the release that really brings the cliche to life. This is an essential piece and required listening for Taylor devotees . Highly recommended. Note, the LP comes with and large poster suitable for framing--the LP is available via the usual sources for a reasonable price lately and I highly encourage any fan of Taylor's to take the opportunity to score a copy of this outstanding release.
